What's New at The View

Whoopi stays as moderator. Everybody else is history. Jenny McCarthy can go back to posing for Playboy or tell lies about vaccine.

Rosie, former moderator, returns as co-host.

Executive producer Bill Geddie thrown under bus to accommodate Rosie.

Sarah Palin angling to joining the panel.

Baba Wawa stays retired.

I'm taking the side of Wendy Williams. I don't want to see Sarah Pailin doing The View. But here is where Wendy and I disagree. She thinks Leah Remini from King of Queens is a good choice for new host on The View because of her experience as host on CBS's The Talk. I also do not agree with Wendy's opinion that they should bring back Star Jones. As for my own opinion about who I think should do The View? I don't mind Rosie coming back. I think Joy Behar should come back. And maybe Sally Jessey.

The former occupant of the right-wing nut job hottie seat on "The View," Elizabeth Hasselbeck, is already bashing Rosie on Fox.

ABC does not sound that eager to give Hasselbeck and anti-vaccine wacko McCarthy's spot to Sarah Palin.

With Whoopi and Rosie, the panel is already starting skew old. Not likely to get the money demos with a panel seen as people like your mother's friends.

So the affiliates can air infomericals at 11:30 on Saturday night? As bad as SNL is, it's (slightly) better than an infomerical. The View? Not so much.

I'd be for dumping The View and giving its time slot back to the affiliates, just like NBC is going to do for Saturday Night Live.

Fixed.

My quote was fine the way it was and didn't need to be "fixed." All that most local stations would do if ABC turned the time over to them would be to fill it with more trash talk and infomercials. And it would be even worse if NBC turned the time for SNL over to local stations.

Why would ABC turn the time back to the stations? "The View" makes money. They sell spots. And at times the thing is almost an infomercial with segments promoting products (and those segments are bought and paid for - read the credits).

Few - if any - chicks here, so not likely to be anybody who is a fan of "The View." But it has fans among those still living the June Cleaver dream.

It would make more sense to get young, fresh blood as hosts to draw the viewers in rather than rehashing (Rosie) who didn't play well with others before.

Rosie drew viewers. Demos are another matter.

Besides, Hasselbeck is long gone.

Or maybe intelligent co-hosts like Meredith Vieira and Lisa Ling. Instead the last several years, they went in direction of all former celebrities and former actors and reality tv actors.

I wonder if ABC affiliates might pre-empt the show: maybe Sinclair ABC affiliates, ABC affiliates in conservative markets and/or if the ratings slips (although I think Rosie will still draw viewers). The "Home" show and "Caryl & Marilyn" were pre-empted across many ABC affiliates before "The View's era. I read that Barbara Walters insisted on getting "The View" cleared in more markets, but now her influence on the show is less.

Here in Philly,
WPVI used to air "Regis & Kathie Lee" at 9am, "AM Philadelphia/Live" at 10am (1 hour show - got best ratings in that hour), and coincidentally Rosie O'Donnell's talk show during it's initial peak of high ratings. Then Barbara Walters insisted that The View get cleared on WPVI and AM Philadelphia was cancelled to make room, although they converted that show into a night show that ran after Nightline.

Now that Katie is cancelled, it would have been great for WPVI to resurrect the AM show, like it operates on in Chicago ("Windy City Live") maybe moving Rachael to the afternoons. Instead the ABC O&O group has decided to put Jeopardy rerun and Millionaire rerun in the afternoon, rather than invest in an AM show for Philly as it doesn't fit a cookie cutter approach for NYC and Raleigh.

Next year for ABC daytime:
Another possibility is ABC extending Good Morning America to 10am with Lara Spencer, and Live with Kelly & Michael airing Live at 10am. I'm sure ABC is thinking about this approach for next year, although they would still have a 3pm hour problem while NBC has Ellen, CBS has Queen Latifah/DrPhil and Fox has Dr.Oz.

NBC, CBS and Fox seem to have stronger daytime lineups than ABC even though ABC O&O stations used to rule in that regards.

From your mouth to God's ear...

Celebs need not apply at 'The View'? Casting takes a serious turn

Rosie could be the last Celebrity-with-a-capital-C to snag a seat at the table.

With the exception of creator Barbara Walters, "The View" has been populated since 2006 by women plucked from entertainment. Think Elisabeth Hasselbeck, "Survivor" star; Jenny McCarthy, Playboy model-turned-actress; Sherri Shepherd, comic and actress; Joy Behar, comic and actress; and of course Whoopi Goldberg, a comedian, actress and Oscar-winner.

But change appears to be afoot. While the names being bandied about in recent rumors might belong to familiar faces from TV news, there's not a Playboy spread, reality show or stool-and-a-mike setup among them. ...

They're not going to revisit AM Live as it was last known, and a garbage show at that, for a one year patch...which is all the Jeopardy/Millionaire thing is. It's a stopgap until they settle on the next talk show they plan to plug in.

It seems like it is going political. Suppose there will be much discussion with mid-term elections to the 2016 President.

The Talk apparently has won in the younger demos over The View, and Moonves and the some of the cast of the Talk were all cheery (as seen on ET) but the shows are different. AFAIK, I don't think The Talk talks politics.

I agree that it should have gone younger. Maybe got Candace Cameron Bure. She'd be a conservative voice. Then maybe get someone who is liberal. Then an Asian and an Hispanic who are moderate. But it'd be cool if they were all former sitcom child/teen actors as well, and better if from ABC, as well while it'd help ABC Family reruns of those shows. While Whoopi maybe took Barbara's chair, thus be less present. Whoopi and Rosie might lean older and be too overpowering.
