Anything big in your city?Any good gossip?Any new ideas? The board has been quiet for awhile -- we need to get this thing up and rolling again.
KVLL 94.7 - Lufkin/Nacogdoches.. OFF-AIR... this could be interesting.Musicradio said:Anything big in your city?Any good gossip?Any new ideas? The board has been quiet for awhile -- we need to get this thing up and rolling again.
And who might that be?nuzguy said:And several stations continue to be highly dysfunctional. One in particular and its PD seem to be having more delusions of adequacy.
KVLL - 94.7, Lufkin/Nacogdoches -- OFF-AIR (formerly satellite fed, controlled by KJCS)KLSN - 96.3, Lufkin/Nacogdoches -- OFF AIR (formerly a simulcast of KETX - Livingston)LABreeze said:Or beter yet, what's shakin' up in NE Texas. Haven't heard much of what's happening around Access 1's stations or Waller's (dysfunctionally confused) stations. I think some of us posters are literally asleep at the keyboard or drooling by the mouse. But seriously speaking of that of the Lufkin-Nacogdoches area, how ARE they doing these days?
Lufkin/Nac...Clear Channel is holding it's own...but then, do they really have any competition? KJ is a joke to KYKS--BUT that's due in part to lack of watts and dollars. PLUS, KYKS is a heritage station up and down the eastern border of Texas. Everyone knows about KICKS 105. I think it would be SO interesting if Cumulus or Infinity came to town with some $$ backing them. Clear Channel's understaffed cluster would finally have an uphill battle to fight that wasn't in-house.LABreeze said:Or beter yet, what's shakin' up in NE Texas. Understaffed? Surely you jest!hampsterdancer said:Clear Channel's understaffed cluster would finally have an uphill battle to fight that wasn't in-house.
I don't know man, KJ is getting alot better than they have been, but I agree, KYKS is definitely a heritage station. Also, of this afternoon, KVLL 94.7 is back on-air with their satellite fed oldies. I think if Cumulus ever came to Lufkin, it would be because they would have bought Clear Channel Lufkin... I can't see any direct competition, and doubt that Yates Broadcasting would ever sell to a corporate cluster. It may be just me, but KTBQ has seemed to go downhill. It was listenable to me, but now it's hard to match myself to it, it's very bland and shallow, pretty much.. just a personal opinion. KSFA has News/Talk cornered.. aside of a bad Lufkin signal at night (transmitter in Nacogdoches), it has pretty much everything just where it should be, and has even recently gotten a local host for a religious call-in program. KAFX is seeming to do well with listener involvement, remotes, giveaways, etc.. lots of participants. That college crowd is definitely there, and the Top40 program on Saturday Nights seems to net alot of listeners.Really, aside of KJ, there's no real competition for Clear Channel Luf/Nac... everything besides them are all satellite fed.hampsterdancer said:Lufkin/Nac...Clear Channel is holding it's own...but then, do they really have any competition? 24 employees for 3 FM's and an AM in this market isn't really too bad.a_and_m_king said:Understaffed? Surely you jest!![]()

Wow, you're really brainwashed. You say 24 employees. I'm guessing you mean total? How many full time people are there in programming? I'd bet that a good part of those 24 employees are in sales/accounting. Sorry, but you're really delusional.MattKuhl said:24 employees for 3 FM's and an AM in this market isn't really too bad.
I'm brainwashed? I work there, I see how it goes down, and everybody gets everything done that needs to be done. 13 are in sales/management, 11 are in programming. I'm delusional? Do you work in radio? Do you work at Clear Channel Lufkin? Every post I make, you reply to it like you know what the hell you're talking about, and you clearly do not.I'm surprised the mod's didn't take your post down already for 'bashing.'.. that's really mature.a_and_m_king said:Wow, you're really brainwashed. Last I'd heard from a friend that works in the market...CC Lufkin/nac had only FOUR full-time programming employees. Part-timers and interns don't count, pal. Oh, and neither do the receptionists that field the phone calls while your station lines are on hold. I guess this would be a good time for that "rule of 3" to come in--American Pie--11 divided by 3 is 3.67...so, yeah, that'd be about right. FOUR. That being said, I agree with A&M King, it's nothing to glorify or encourage. We've all been there. Well, those of us that have worked in more markets than say just Lufkin/Nac, TX. It's a shame that Clear Channel doesn't provide the funding for their mini-markets. But then again, it's not like you NEED those bodies. Small markets just don't have enough going on. It's a wonder they don't implode and get sucked into a hole. And do you really think you're being bashed? Not hardly, kid. Once you've been around a little longer and have worked in more than one market you'll stop running for your daddy to protect you when others speak the truth.MattKuhl said:I'm brainwashed? Exactly my thoughts, Musicradio... Opinions are great, but it does seem to come off as unexperienced comments...Musicradio said:"Wow, you're really brainwashed. You say 24 employees. I just can't tell if you have any real experience in the working radio business. If not, look into how the business works today -- it is a factthat a lot of stations have fewer employees than in years past.I'm not always sure that is the best way, but that's the way it is.
I've worked in radio for 5+ years. How long have you? I think you're taking my disagreement of your position as a lack of experience. Don't think that because someone thinks you're wrong that they don't know what they're talking about.I'm not the only one who doesn't see eye to eye with you, yet you've singled me out?MattKuhl said:Exactly my thoughts, Musicradio... Why have I singled you out? Because you clearly said that I was brainwashed and delusional. Or maybe it's because you think you're correct about the workings of a market you're not involved with. Just because you differ in opinion with someone does not make them wrong, brainwashed, or delusional.I'm through with this.a_and_m_king said:I've worked in radio for 5+ years. How long have you?
