What's next for 103.1 in Central Long Island?

I love the first song played following the flip. The second song - not so much. I am no fan of Morgan Wallen.
What was the first song? And I'm ambivalent on Wallen. He's recorded some crap, true, but his current duet with Eric Church is a great bit of neotraditional country.

How Country Feels by Randy Hauser was the first song.
That was also the first song back when 94.7 became a Country station.
It’s interesting that Max 103.1 dropped classic rock while its ratings were rising. But the fact that they are already airing quite a few ads from local sponsors may be an indication businesses in the area are on board with the Country format.
Hopefully the station won’t run long without personalities, as Max did for the past few months.

Yes it is! The last song before the flip was “A New Kid In Town” by the Eagles. Before that was “That’s All” by Genesis, “Movin’ Out” by Billy Joel, “Good Riddance” by Green Day and “The Final Countdown” by Europe.

Thankfully! I got the aircheck that I recorded this morning at 10:05AM while I was at the day program, and I left it on while I was out to Walmart to get something, and when I got home, it’s still recording, but I stopped it after I came back.

I will be posting an aircheck of the last 18 minutes of “Max-FM” and the launch of “The Wolf” later if I can get a chance.

And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for, a new aircheck from earlier this morning where WBZO’s “Max-FM” at 103.1 becomes “The Wolf” as WWWF. You’ll hear the last 18 minutes of “Max-FM” and then the first 27 minutes of “The Wolf”. I hope you all like it.

I'm curious to see whether the biast of the genre in NYC will hold true on Long Island. Will see what the advertisers do. Much of Long Island is rather urban and much of Nassau County has a high ethnic population although I'm not sure how far the signal gets into Nassau. I know country
used to have issues on Long Island back in the 80s and there was no county for years unti WJVC came on in 2011
which targets the east end

Their signal penetrates well into Nassau County, unless you go up to the extreme North Shore. Their signal does not go far north of the LIE. Now all they need is HD.

I like that The Wolf has been mixing in some Country songs from the 90's.
The playlist is pretty standard for a contemporary country station, primarily hits and recurrents, with '90s gold two or three times an hour. iHeart's "Bull" stations are more "young country" hit-oriented and don't play old songs at all, but they're not usually the market leaders. Since so many of today's country performers and producers were influenced by '90s country, it makes sense for the format to reach back to that decade for gold that fits the overall sound of the station.

An article in Newsday shows the press release Connoisseur sent to advertisers. The flip to Country is scheduled for tomorrow morning.
Unfortunately CEO Jeffrey Warshaw did not give a direct answer when asked whether there will be on-air personalities.

And remember, this new station has nothing to do with WCZX/WZAD’s “The Wolf” at 97.7 and 97.3, and it’s owned by Townsquare, and Townsquare doesn’t 103.1 WWWF (formerly WBZO), it’s Connoisseur, not Townsquare.

I listen to the first 27 minutes on that aircheck and it sounds a lot similar to the Hudson Valley’s version of “The Wolf” and WRWD. What do you think?

I listened to the station's live stream for an hour or so yesterday and heard an announcement that The Wolf would be sponsoring country concerts. Combine that with the search for a PD/DJ and signs are positive that Connoisseur, despite its formatic sweet spot being rock, is serious about making country work in central/western Long Island.

"The Wolf" is one of those positioners that hasn't been registered as a trademark by any of the big radio chains. Our "Wolves" in Vermont/New Hampshire are owned by Binnie Media, a regional operator. They use a wolf howl occasionally between songs. I would expect similar from WWWF.

The 3 station Country simulcast by Townsquare in the Hudson Valley, which can be heard in parts of the Metro area is also called, The Wolf. Unlike the new Long Island station, they only play 90's songs on Thursdays. Both have wolf howls from time to time.
As Connoisseur has said they will be doing a lot of promotion for the new station and Country concerts, this will hopefully be a boost for the Country music scene on Long Island.

Why not ?? hes a hot machine.
Even on the 2023 year end billboard top 100 pop songs he had 3 in the top 20 including #1.
