What's Next for Free-FM?

Now that JV & Elvis suspended from radio, is there anything that is going on at Free-FM? What's next for WFNY? I hope there's going to be some changes at CBS for this failing format.

Now that O&A is gone from Dallas, I don't see what's left at Free-FM for this awful format. Maybe we should bring Bob & Sheri to New York City in mornings replacing Opie & Anthony and the rest of this garbage. I love Bob & Sheri so much. I listened to it on their podcast as well. Has anybody know what's next for this station?

I really doubt that either Bob Lacey or Sheri Lynch (if she hasn't remarried and taken another last name) would want the New York market or want to work for CBS Radio. I am familiar with the show and the show is a great morning show for any type of AC driven format. I just don't know how well they would fare in New York because their show is too "nice". Whatever they plan to do with all of the FREE FM stations throughout the country two things are for certain, not all of them will flip to a music format and not all of them will carry O&A in the mornings.

I dont know Fee, I think Dallas may be the exception and not the rule. For all of the talk about local autonomy from CBS corp, for what they're paying for O and A between their cbs salary and whatever compensation they had to give XM to make this deal happen I cannot see them paying for a show that they bought to roll out and save the company, then just allow local markets to decide their own morning show fate.

Strange times for certain my man.

Free-FM is complete disaster in every market that it infests. Phoenix might be the most successful market--but when I say "successful" don't get excited, as KZON doesn't even crack a 2 share. As for the situation in New York with WFNY, there isn't much of a solution. CBS Radio does not stand by their talent as they systematically cave to any pressure from any special interest or action group regardless of how small they are.

When you combine incompetent programming decisions with spineless middle-upper management types and then add in juvenile shows that garner 0.0 in some markets, there is no doubt that something has to give eventually. CBS Radio and their willingness to hang on to failed concepts--i.e. Jack, Free, et al, makes it a very bad time to be a stock holder and at some point a lot more heads are going to roll. I honestly do not think that there is anyway Free-FM can ever be successful when their entire operation is predicated around building Stern clones and then firing them when they do exactly what they were hired to do.

The radio business is really trying to do itself in... I don't think anyone could have dreamed the downfall of terrestrial radio--or at least CBS would have occurred so precipitously.

Perhaps its time to sell the CBS Radio empire back to Uncle Mel? Goodness knows he can make money and tell the special interest groups where and when to get off! Bring back Uncle Mel now!

As I said, Free-FM is a complete disaster in NYC. I don't listened to that station so much, the one show that I like is Bob & Sheri, because it is a million times better than Opie & Anthony, Howard Stern and Don Imus since he got fired two weeks ago on WFAN for racial comments with the Rutgers basketball team. The one show I would like to see in New York City is Bob & Sheri. I love B&S so much, because it is a million times better than O&A, Stern and Imus, those three shock jocks that I hate so much. They got their podcast from the show that you've missed this morning. That might be my rumor that Bob & Sheri will be syndicate to New York City, but I don't think B&S would work for CBS, but it's owned by Lincoln Financial. I got this link for those of you in the NYC area who doesn't like Free-FM at 92.3 if it doesn't carry their syndicated B&S morning show, here it is.

http://bobandsheri.1079thelink.com

WCTW in the Hudson Valley does carry B&S show every morning on Lite-FM at 98.5 (106.7 is not using "Lite-FM" anymore, 92.1 and 98.5 stays). I love their show so much every morning, one of the most better shows than the painful three shock jocks that are brats from the CBS stations.

I doubt that Bob and Sheri will be coming to NYC. Many syndicated offerings that are typically on smaller-market stations generally stay out of the big markets like NYC or LA, unless it's where the show is being syndicated.

As far as Free FM, If there is a locally-based show that actually may be pulling decent numbers, keep that but scrap everything else. Get some music formats back on FM, and do it right.

Jacko

They may as well flip back to some sort of rock format.

I would personally prefer Alternative or some form of Modern Rock, but I'm not apart of the crowd crying for another rock station in this city.

Maybe 92.3 FM should start fresh with a completely different format. Don't know what that would be since CBS already has 'Jack' and 'Fresh' on the radio. Country hasn't seen staggering numbers in the past, so I would rule that out even though it may be worth a try if executed well.

Or simulcast one of their AM news stations such as 1010 WINS. Chances of that are next to nothing though.

Is Disneyfanatic green and leafy?

I consider myself pretty well-versed in radio personalities across the country, and I have no clue who the hell Bob and Sheri is.

And CBS is owned by Lincoln Financial? When did this happen?

True. I can easily see O&A losing a few more markets. I can't see their show exiting Chicago where the ratings have been reported to be almost non existent and maybe a few others that have similar issues. It could also happen that O&A ends up being flipped to afternoons on a few stations. They got afternoons in Cleveland and everyone involved there seems to be really happy with the results.

Strange times for certain indeed.

You'll have to excuse Disney. Just read his posts on the Albany/Hudson Valley board and you'll know why.

::)

I get my fill of crazy posters, plants, and astroturfing on the Philly and Jersey boards.

Honestly.....all I can see is country with a great morning show...such as Jim Kerr and the crew that Y107 had.

Free FM is another Holander Broadcast Mess-up tion. Make it Country and prove that there is a 3 share out there. Move the Opie and anthony show to either Jack or WFAN

IM thinkin 92.3 Free FM Should put Disney Fanatic's "Disney and More Podcast" on in afternoon drive from 3 - 7 PM, that way commuters coming home from work, can take ice picks to their ear drums to avoid listening to this train wreck radio at its best. The best show is "My Thoughts on "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" where Disney Fanatic talks about watchin Jem, My little pony, Care Bears and She-Ra! HA...What a tool
Check it out.... http://musicradio77.podomatic.com/entry/2007-02-09T22_33_04-08_00
