What's Next for KTRB?

Well, the reciever decided to try to get more than it was worth, and now the station is virtually worthless. Any thoughts on whats next for KTRB? Could their be some lawsuits here?

Seems the A's called the receivers bluff! Turn out the lights KTRB and turn in the license to the FCC. Two Million to upgrade the nighttime signal that would have been first class plus the A's had the clout to get the job done too, easy red tape cutting there!

Greed rears it's ugly head once again! Receiver blew it....A's gave them a perfect out....Now it's lights out!

Shut it down and sell the parts. I don't think there's any alternative. It's only worth about $3 million (based on sales of other market stations in recent years. And the receiver turned down the Oakland A's offer of twice that amount.

Stupid stupid stupid.

Most of the usual suspects such as Salem and Clear Channel have been selling, not buying stations lately. Maybe Principle might be interested, but from the looks of it they tend to take stations that are already complete and not invest in upgrades, moves, etc. KTRB just can't survive the way it is.

I think it would be funny if the A's cut the deal with 95.7 as only a deal for FM radio rights, and that the A's reserved the right to simulcast on an AM if they so choose, or if they so owned such a station in the future.

50 kw in Boise with the same problem. Lost the night site. 35 watts at night won't hack it. Been silent for a couple years except for the yearly 3 day classical music extravaganza to keep the license. Two failed sales. Was scheduled to be auctioned off April 1st. Any takers???

Which station in Boise? It can't be KBOI-670.

My guess is that during the bankruptcy KTRB left Salem holding the bag for a tidy sum related to diplexing at KFAX. If they're one of the biggest lien holders I could see them taking over the station. Forget the night site, but they could probably run 500 watts or something from Hayward.

KDJQ 890.

Anyone think the reciever could lose her job for blowing a sale like that? I guess in the meantime 860am continues talking to itself

Except I don't think such a station exists on AM now in the Bay area. Of course, I don't totally understand why the A's left KSFO unless they weren't wanted back/didn't want to be on a righty station.

@Travis...no, she can't. Her job is to protect the asset for the bankruptcy court, not to make a sale. You and I may think she blew it, but the court certainly won't "fire" her.

That makes sense, but then doesn't the "squeeze" miscalculation that now appears to have cost the bank 3 million $ contradict the thought that she is protecting and not selling?

With 2 strong signals already doing sports on AM in the Bay Area- one of which is actually the best AM in the market, what makes anyone here think that being the #3 or #4 sports station in the market with serious night signal issues (without very expensive corrective work) will be a great deal? Another talker, a music format, or even brokered might actually make more money on 860 than being an also-ran sports station.

I would say so. FM Stations with positive cash flows have been selling for $4 million or less, so an AM station with a poor signal that is losing so much money it can't afford to be on at nighttime is certainly not worth $6 million. I understand the need to get as much money for the creditors as possible, but I think she blew it on the economics of the situation unless there is some big secret somewhere none of us are privy to.
