KBSG is much the same as 10 years ago with the inevitable exception of a few staff changes and the addition of some 70s stuff as time moves on.

What have you been listening to? Over the past 10 years, KBSG has....
- Got a new station voice
- Changed its logo
- Changed the statement that brands the station (several times)
- Plays its power category songs four times a day (compared to once or twice before)
- Shed some of its on-air staff, going to voicetracking

Seems to me that there are a number of other stations that would flip in 2007 before KBSG. They sound better now than they did 6 months ago. The PD before Jay Coffee had it all messed up. At least Jay Coffee has made an effort to put things right.

Yup - that PD did so bad of a job - that he was recruited to program WCBS. In New York City. Uh-huh.

And there's the problem. Listeners don't recognize those changes. Which is why oldies stations nationwide have had to change formats to shed that image.

You know that WCBS in New York is an impoverished Jack station, right?

And what has KBSG done when it comes to serving the community, exhibiting real passion for the music, promoting features like the morning show or even making an attempt to break out of there nice niche instead of going after the competitors audience. They've done nearly nothing. They own a hole.

I like production elements too. A cool new voice guy may energize the staff perhaps although the audience will never really notice. A new P.D. with a new twist on the same 300 titles could be meaningful too.

These last few posts illustrate what's so wrong with todays radio broadcasting environment. Voice guy! New P.D. at a freaking Oldies station! KBSG sounds fine right now and there's nothing anyone can do about it..untill it just goes away. I say 2008.

I also know that you are a necessitous nerd

Ugh!!! Is this an improvement? This is what I hate about all retro formats - from KZOK to Jack and stations like KBSG - you have an ocean of popular music from multiple decades and you beat folks over the head with the same friggin’ tracks again and again. "Oh, but the research says..." screw the research! Give your audience a little credit. It's not like folks forgot the song you played 5 hours ago. Or that you are playing anything that folks will recognize more if you beat it onto the ground like a Car Toys commercial. KBSG has absolutely zero personality - This city is so fed up with your lame-ass feel good slogans. Please stop.

Try reading the entire thread, specifically what I said earlier, before going Rambo here. You'll understand better what I'm saying.

Sleepyhead said "...Classical is for losers when it comes to media buyers and I don't care what there numbers are. KING-FM could flip..."

Yeah, classical is for LOSERS! One of the most beautiful art forms the world will know (since I believe it is all over now) was the music that came out of the previous centuries when music was more than a cheap song sung by a sweaty boy band, rocker freaks, sexed up trollops and other freakshows!

KING FM has shown up near or in the top 10 area stations for years. They hardly need to flip to some cocaine inspired formula freak show from the latest flavor of the month consultant.

Now before you "programming geniuses" start adding KING-FM to the "who flips to country net month" thread, KING-FM was donated to the Corporate Council of the Arts by the Bullett Sisters with the understanding, (and contracts to back it up), that it will always remain classical. So don't look to 98.1 for that new rock morning team Weiner and and Butt. You Family Guy fans know what I'm talking about.

Yeah I didn't really land on those facts because I wanted to speak the audience here specifically, which tends to be hot for shallow fads and posturing so popular in radio today.

By the way, pump that Christmas music! Halloween is barely cold in the morgue so it is time to sell the garlands, put up the tree, sell the candy, put up the socks and screw Thanksgiving!

By the way, what are you thankful for?

Me? I'm thankful for this board! Even on a day like today - cold, rainy, windy, miserable - the absurdity of most of what's posted here NEVER fails to give me a good ol' gut-bustin' laugh. Thanks!
