What's on 530khz?

I did a band-scan last night on my drive to work for the first time in a long long time. I got a pretty solid signal on 530khz that sounded like a Mexican station. I'm just curious if anyone knows which station it might be? I'm in the Dallas area. (not that that matters)

Among other broadcasters, there's a Cuban station on 530 playing mostly "beautiful music" instrumentals.

Spanish religion is Turks & Caicos Islands. 50 kw
Multiethnic, but low power, Toronto
Spanish San Jose CR, but 1 kw I believe
Spansish 10 kw just outside Buenos Aires, Argentina.

I thought T&C was 40 kW. Did they upgrade? They are all but drowned out by Cuba.

And you - using the term "Spanish"? You have us all trained that Spanish is a language, not a format! So shouldn't it be "Spanish language religion" and not "Spanish religion"?

Last I heard from their CE they were running at 50 kw. At one point, they were 100 kw.

Ya got me! :-\

We spend one week in June and the entire month of Frebruary in a beachfront condo on the gulf coast right on the AL-FL state line (Two doors down from the famous/infamous Florabana)

Anyway, at that location, the Cuban owns the 530 channel at night. In the daytime, on both the car radio and on the balcony with my Grundig Yacht Boy PE, a faint carrier is discernable but the audio is impossible to make out. I presume its the Cuban, but I'm not sure.

Several other Cubans are clearly audible on a.m. throughout the day at this location. 710 basically throws a dagger right through semi-local WNTM, and all of the major Cuban networks are represented (except for radio Encyclopedia, which probably doens't qualify as a major network in the first place). On shortwave, Radio Rebelde puts in a monster daytime signal on 5025.

I think I heard the Turks and Caicos 530 in Miami in the daytime.

Hope someone reads this ... I was in Merritt Island, Florida last weekend visiting family and heard pretty clear Spanish on 530 5 or so miles inland from the Atlantic. Would this have been Cuba or Turks and Caicos? It certainly is a haul from T&C to where I was, but it's far to Cuba too, plus that signal would have to get to me over land.
I heard Reloj clearly on 570, 790 and 820 at night. WBAP was hardly there.

Here in Va., I'm hearing not only the Cuban 530 station, but also a weak Morse code when the ferrite bar antenna is aiming at west and east, so my guess is it's coming from the ocean..??? Does anybody know that it is?

There's a pretty strong navigation beacon on 526KHz in south-central Tennessee. I strongly suspect that's what you're hearing. (with the Morse) LYQ, .-.. -.-- --.-

I thought LYQ was actually at 529 khz. There are beacons at 526 for sure. I've heard one or 2 of them here in Ottawa. LYQ is supposedly a 25 watt station.

Thank you, w9wi and mimo. I just googled LYQ and the beacon is coming from Manchester, TN, about halfway between Chattanooga and Nashville, according to the hardcore-dx website.

Just I.D.'d 530 CIAO in Brampton, ON on Feb 17 during sunset skip and playing Indian music. A first for me.

How far from Toronto are you?
Cincinnati Ohio, which is about 400 miles from Brampton. Usually only get the Caribbean stations, however I've never camped on 530 to see what fades in and out during SSS and the evening.

After reading this thread, I just now picked up my radio and tuned to 530. It's night and all I'm getting right now is one isolated Spanish speaking station that's not too strong. It's strongest when the radio is in a SSW/NNE direction. I'm in Tampa.

If the Spanish station is also playing beautiful music, I believe its a Cuban. I've heard it when vacationing near Pensacola and Gulf shores.

At my location northwest of Chicago is a regular....albeit a fairly weak one....on most nights. I get into the Ontario-upstate NY area 2-3 times a year on business, and can tell you that CIAO has an fairly impressive daytime signal for a lower-powered station in an area with basically so-so ground conductivity.

I CAN HEAR THIS 24/7!!!

so, cuba now has this??? yea, elevator music is played.
cuba doesn't release their power but i'm guessing 200KW as there drowning out a 50KW turks station.

Thanks, Rob

I live in Chicago and I've picked up the 530 AM from T&C, quite a few times. I did hear TOH ID and if I'm not
mistaken they are also broadcast on a different frequency in New York.
