What's so special about 8:30 on Saturday mornings?

From 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM on Saturday mornings, all five Boston news stations are airing local news. Simultaneously.

While there's nothing wrong with the time of day a station broadcasts a news program, this is very peculiar given Boston's oversaturation of local TV news stations. And it doesn't happen at all during this specific half-hour time period the other 6 days of the week.

So why does this happen on Saturdays? Does the Boston television market hate cartoons or something?

Well, yeah to an extent. WBTS has been airing news starting at 8:30am because of Premier League coverage in the afternoon. I usually forget because Saturday Today is usually two hours, 7-9am, but has been shortened during the Premier League season.

IMO, Saturday Today should just be an hour, just like Sunday Today.
 
Since there's no Premier League soccer this Saturday because of the FIFA break, NBC 10 should lengthen the show to 2 hours.
