There actually was a time back in the 60's and 70's when being part of a group meant that the station was something special. It meant that the station was probably one of the best in the market and only the highest quality professionals worked there.

Some that come to mind are Group W, RKO General, Susquehanna, Storer, Capital Cities, ABC. On a smaller scale Kops-Monahan always ran a professional operation in New Haven and Albany. Merv Griffins's stations were also well run.

I think that, in terms of non-corporate radio groups, you'd have to go to New London, and the Hall cluster of stations. Not to mention Red Wolf, owner of Jammin, as well as the "number one [station] in the ratings", WBMW!

is Buckley the only Connecticut owned group in Hartford? what about those guys.

Red Wolf is based in Ledyard. Buckley's HQ is in Greenwich. Berkshire has 3 stations together in Danbury. That's it for groups as far as I know!

Buckley must the biggest Connecticut broadcaster, what about these guys.

There are a few other private single stations in CT: WATR in Waterbury, WINY in Putnam, WZBG in Litchfield & the WMRD/WLIS simulcast. Everything else is pretty much out of state and/or corporate owned. Buckley does own some stations outside CT, including WOR/NYC and a handful of properties in Syracuse, NY and in California.

If you work in CT radio, better have three other sources that add up to a decent income.

wasn't it you who told of 6 figure salaries for the morning show on tic-fm? i guess gary wouldn't need one.

Video - why so bitter about the industry? What do you do for work currently? You seem to have an awful lot of time to respond to every single thread on here and knock corporate radio every chance you get. Are you an out of work board-op? A street team member that only works weekends? Or are you a waiter at the Outback?

Do tell!

I make more money now than I ever made in all twenty five years in a horrible industry filled with horrible people.
And to be quite blunt, if I knew over twenty years ago what I know today I would have NEVER set foot in a radio station.
I am forced to keep this clean or get edited by the board. I enjoy bashing the so-called know-it-alls in the business, who over the years went out of their way to stick many knives in my back. Like I wrote in past threads the wheels of justice grind exceedingly slow for the many self-absorbed back stabbing weasels in an industry loaded with from A-Z with pretentious and reprehensible losers.

Some are and some are not. The smart people are in other markets. Many smelled the coffee and moved on to more lucrative careers. Radio is a VERY strange business. Too strange to be written about on this thread.
