What's the deal with Clear Channel Portsmouth?

What the hell is going on in Portsmouth? It's seems as though they are firing everyone at Clear Channel, seeing how they own eight stations and the only stable FM of the four would have to be WHEB. WERZ lost their entire morning show, WQSO lost a few guys, including the daytime guy (I think that's him doing the Bays morning show), WUBB has lost a few people that I have heard of (though I have not had too much attention go towards that station seeing how I don't like country), and WHEB has had a bumpy road anyway for quite a while.

Does anyone know what the hell is going on in there? I have worked in radio in VA, and seen things kind of like this before, but nothing to this nature. Clear Channel owns the market, just about, every station I've heard (at least the four FMs), there's been air jocks leaving left and right.

Who has left, and why is my question. How long is this going to happen?

It's almost the same thing that's been going on in Providence. As in Portsmouth, Providence stations are owned primarily by two companies, Clear Channel and Citadel. Unfortunately, there comes that sense of ownership in the market, and that feeling that if you can cut costs, people are still going to listen to the station because it's the only game in town. The only real Portsmouth radio competition would be between WHEB and The Shark. Clear Channel realizes this and is going to pump more $$ into that station while it's up against the Shark.

In Providence, there is no directly competing station between Citadel and Clear Channel, aside from maybe CC's Hot AC (WSNE) and Citadel's AC (WWLI). CC's oldies WWBB has received the brunt of CC's cuts, and it shows in the ratings. Unfortunately, you can expect more generic branding of area radio stations--if you listen to WGIR, WHEB and WHJY, they sound almost exactly the same...

A friend of mine tells me that a former Bangor radio jock (who was only here about 2-3 months) is now the APD/MD at WERZ? Her name is Melissa Mathers - she's on the website, but she doesn't have an airshift listed. Radio and Records still isn't listing her as the APD or MD, but I guess she's indicated her position somewhere within the University of Maine's internet systems. Congrats!

I was told that one of the guys from WERZ's morning show got a better position at his old station on the Cape, and one got fired. As for their girl from the show, she left once the other two were gone.

At least, that's what I'm told....

I got my BA in Mass Communication with a minor in Public Relations. , I love the Red Sox, I love volleyball, I'm pretty laid back and sarcastic, and I lovvvvvvvvvvve what I do for a living (even if it pays jack). I am the Asst. Program Director/Music Director/Night Host for WERZ-FM in Portsmouth, NH and I've worked for Clear Channel Radio for almost 3 years now."

So who is doing their morning show?
