What's the Difference between Star 94 and Q100 at 99.7?

I have been listening to both stations a lot recently and to me they sound EXACTLY the same. Even on mediabase 24/7 they pretty much play the same songs. Q100 at 99.7 has COMPLETELY strayed away from any hip-hop content. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this? And does Atlanta really have a TRUE top 40 now?

Well we're only 2 hours into the new Q100 at 99.7. I'd say give it a couple of days, especially over the weekend. We should hear some Baby Bash and other songs we wouldn't typically hear during the work day on Q100 tonight as has happened in the past on Q100 at 100.5. Let's just wait it out and see.

Musically, there has been little difference between Star and Q for some time. Both stations lean heavily on recurrent/gold material and both are somewhat Hot AC-leaning (although Q100 certainly plays stuff like Kanye and Soulja Boy whereas Star won't even touch that stuff on nights/weekends). Looking at yes.com logs, it doesn't look like anything's changed since the moved to 99.7 and I don't foresee any alterations, especially given the traditionally conservative nature of most Cumulus CHRs.

IMO, Q100 needs to branch out and become more current-based. But I've been saying that for years now. Playing almost the exact music selection as Star does little to differentiate the two, and the hipper imaging and younger morning show on WSTR aren't going to help matters in that regard. Not to mention the fact that Star occasionally pulls out some golds that make you say "whoa, haven't heard that in a while" and crank it up. That's one of the strongest points of their musical selection if you ask me.

Has any of the imaging/presentation changed based on the few hours we've heard of Q programming on 99.7? I'm at school at the moment, but plan to stream once I get home...

Q100 on 99.7 can now be heard in Social Circle so that should mean a whole point alone. They have definitely changed their music mix over the years and should do more to differentiate themselves from Star.

Same Bert Show.... Same Q100......... ;) Nothing much has changed so far today. Although, I wish the programming would shift to a younger, hipper format during the workday....

Why would they do that? They made this move because they believe they have a viable product that only needed a better signal. If they felt the station needed tweaking to better itself, they would have done that before the move to work out the kinks.

I think they have a strong strategy. Play offense. Star is in the position of being reactive and unstable at the moment. Q can best take advantage of that by staying consistent and steady and wagging their bigger stick around for a while.

Cumulus smells blood in the water while Lincoln fiddles around with a sale. For all we know, Cumulus may have given Lincoln an offer they couldn't refuse for 94.1 and they didn't know what was good for them...and now they have to make good. ;D

Besides, if all they want is a license and a stick they might get a better price for a beaten-down 94.1...

How about the similarities, both crappy morning shows. Like the reports of watching the movie Cloverfield, makes me nauseous.
