This is something I've pondered almost ever since the news of WFMX's move, and assuming it abandons its heritage format. Anyone familiar with what happened in North Georgia several years back with WNGC? I liken that station to WFMX...WNGC is now at 106.1 but formerly occupied the 95.5 frequency licensed to Athens(GA) for so many years. The old WNGC(at 95.5) was bought and "moved" to Atlanta, and flipped to a Rythmic-CHR format. Not sure how the acquistion of 106.1 occurred, but North Georgia listeners even had the privilege of a "transition" period. For a number of months, 95.5 WNGC informed its listeners that they could start listening to "WNGC" on 106.1 and programming was duplicated on both frequencies until 95.5 was abandoned and "moved". The short of this: North Georgia kept a heritage station/format, albeit on a new frequency. If WFMX abandons its format on 105.7, WFMX could "move" to 94.1 or I've even thought of this for 97.3 in North Wilkesboro. Yes, I know we seem to have so many country stations, but WFMX has tried to march to a slightly different beat with a bit more emphasis on the classics and offering up the entire racing menu for race fans--though I'm not one.
