What's the latest on 94.1 in triad?

From what I understand, the move was attached to a sale. The move fell through because the community the new tower was supposed to be in enacted NIMBY legislation causing the sale to fall through.

Davidson got themselves a new PD, a (kinda) new format (similar to WSLQ in Roanoke, VA) and are sticking it out in the Triad.

Guys.....Its not going to happen.... they don't(can't) get clearance to build the tower in Rowan county and until somebody dies, that frequency is not for sale

The community was an airport neighborhood? Houses with an runway. An interesting theme for a residential neighborhood.

You do know the plans were to sell the permit to Billy Graham so he could reach Charlotte and the Triad (94.1-106.9 The Light)?

But 106.9 comes in fine here in Charlotte. ???

I thought they were moving to the same location as 106.5 WEND? ???

Not unless Clear Channel can add another in Charlotte (and I don't think they can)

Mediaspeaks...

I think JoshB was talking about the transmitter being located at the same location as WEND. The Dalton Group still owns the tower in China Grove where WEND is currently located as well as the former tower on Youngs MT in Cleveland. If the tower has available space they could lease space to any owner if the FCC allows 94.1 to move to that location...

With that being said I don't think the FCC would allow 94.1 to move all the way to China Grove without a significant decrease in power.

For the record I have never been able to confirm the Graham rumor...I think Gig Hilton may have made that up himself...

The new 94.1 tower site was to be 5 miles from the grass airstrip known as Miller Airpark. It is not uncommon for people to have homes connected to an airstrip where they can land their planes and taxi right up to their house...I have heard rumors that the Miller Airpark maybe on its death bed...If it goes away that could be good news for Gig...

The ideal place for 94.1 to move would be Youngs MT...I am not sure if the Daltons have any space available though...Last time I passed through there it looked like they have a bunch of stuff on the tower...

You have to keep in mind the spacing with 104.7. Their tower location on the far north end of the city doesn't help. That's why they can't share a tower with WEND and don't forget a 94.1 in Cross Hill (SC). That's why they applied for 43k at 408m.

Another option for 94.1 could be to move to the existing 105.7 transmitter site east of Statesville after 105.7 moves up near Stokes. The 1500ft 105.7 transmitter could be available with the pending move if the FCC would approve the move for 94.1. This would push 94.1 to the west approx 20 miles and greatly improve their Charlotte signal while maintaining a strong triad signal as well. Even with a power reduction overall, this seems like a much better site option than their current location having to shield toward the Triangle. What about this option to move to the existing Statesville site?

This is something I've pondered almost ever since the news of WFMX's move, and assuming it abandons its heritage format. Anyone familiar with what happened in North Georgia several years back with WNGC? I liken that station to WFMX...WNGC is now at 106.1 but formerly occupied the 95.5 frequency licensed to Athens(GA) for so many years. The old WNGC(at 95.5) was bought and "moved" to Atlanta, and flipped to a Rythmic-CHR format. Not sure how the acquistion of 106.1 occurred, but North Georgia listeners even had the privilege of a "transition" period. For a number of months, 95.5 WNGC informed its listeners that they could start listening to "WNGC" on 106.1 and programming was duplicated on both frequencies until 95.5 was abandoned and "moved". The short of this: North Georgia kept a heritage station/format, albeit on a new frequency. If WFMX abandons its format on 105.7, WFMX could "move" to 94.1 or I've even thought of this for 97.3 in North Wilkesboro. Yes, I know we seem to have so many country stations, but WFMX has tried to march to a slightly different beat with a bit more emphasis on the classics and offering up the entire racing menu for race fans--though I'm not one.

There's also a class C 93.9 WMEV in Marion, VA with city grade signal over Surry and Wilkes counties. They have a CP to improve their signal too. I don't see 94.1 moving west. There's a very good reason WFMX left that tower. While radio fans like big signals that cover parts of three or more markets with city grade signal, it's better to cover all or most of one market.

The ownership of WNGC applied to move the tower to the Gwinnett-Barrow county line and won. Around 2000, they sold it to COX, and COX built the new tower (95-5 The Beat hit the airwaves in summer 2000), but the tower had signal problems. I think Stone Mountain blocked the signal? COX applied to move to the Chestnut Mountain tower in Hall County and that is where they are today.

You may remember PJ from 98-7 The Point left the Triad to move to Atlanta that year. She was on 95-5 The Beat. She is one of the nicest people in radio and a great talent. Anyone know where she is now?

I wouldn't look for WFMX to abandon it's format. Makes a great protector for WTQR. I do think they will pull NASCAR from WSJS in the process since FMX is pretty hooked into PRN. PRN wasn't treated well at WTQR - and TQR hasn't had their races in about five years. They would love to have them back. Split was over all the other programming - Benny's Fast Talk, Garage Pass, Pit Reporters, etc. FMX could continue to run them!

Thanks Test123....

94.1 gets killed in the ratings because of no coverage in Alamance county, I can't imagine moving WEST would help that situation. And Gig, maybe spend a little less money on golf and a little more on salaries!
