What's the latest on MyTV?

Hey, does anyone know how MyTV is stacking up against the other networks?
I've caught a couple looks here and there at some of the shows, and I was suprised at how poorly written and acted some of these new shows are. I don't know how they are doing, but I have a scarey feeling MyTV might be an edangered species.
Also, I noticed that they are using a shared affiliate bug (local identifier comes up automatically from a network signal) instead of national network bug like the other networks use
Anyone else know how it's going for MyNetwork TV thus far? ???

It's averaging about a 1 rating in the overnight markets. Here's a link to a story with info on the first three nights:

I have no idea what My Network TV was promising to advertisers. As stated in other threads, the networks seems to be doing better on former UPN/WB affiliates than on the stations that had no affiliation before. I suspect that once UPN and WB sign off for good, there will be a slight uptick in My Network's numbers. Who knows.

Or there will be a slight DOWNtick because people will find all the shows they're REALLY looking for on the CW and will flee this crud. Who knows.

It seems ever since the formation of The CW was announced, Fox seems so hellbent on putting some sort of "network" programming on its former UPN stations. The way it looks to me, it's just a glorified syndication package, just like the one Universal Television put together for Hercules and Xena, or the ill-fated Spelling Entertainment Network, or others that came before it. It's really looking that The CW will be a major success (comparibly speaking), and My Network will be gone in three years tops, if this current format of shows is all they have to offer. Fox's former UPNs were just better off going independent.

You guys all make good points but the real questions is, are the costs of these shows low enough so even with minimal ratings it will turn a profit.

To be a success that is all My Network TV has to do, turn a profit, no matter how small

From what I've read, Fox has sold about half of its projections of $50 million in advance commercial sales.

Look, we are DAYS into the debut of this network. Not weeks. Not months. It's going to take time to see what shakes out with this thing.
My guess is that the 1-2 rating range will be about all My Network can muster. The real question after that is whether or not those numbers are enough to make a profit.

Furthermore, the shows on the air now only last 13 weeks. There will be two new shows debuting sometime in December. They could do better - they might do worse.

Why do these shows remind me of pornos, but without the sex, production values, script, and pizza man?

After "Desire" and "Fashion House" finish their run, Fox should consider trimming MyNetwork down to 1 primetime hour. 8-9. Consider a thought - Quality is better than quantity.

In New York, they could move the WWOR newscast one hour early - "My 9 News at 9". It seems WWOR, KCOP could reshift their newscast, same with affiliate KRON. Other affiliates could shift their syndicated fare; Fox could move a run of Seinfeld and The Simpsons from their Fox stations to their co-owned My stations. Shifting newscasts and syndicated fare around - it'd be cheaper for Fox, than having to worry about network content for 2 primetime hours of My, in addition to the FOX network. In replace of that hour, they could focus concentration and resources for a late-night variety talk show for the Fox-affiliated and/or My-affiliated stations, and the 9am morning hour for the Fox stations. Note: Fox is starting a 9am program next year.

WWOR would be stupid to do that, as their pathetic little newscast of dubious quality somehow does pretty good in the ratings.
My will die its own death, the question is how bloody long will it take.

Ugh! If quality was really better than quantity in network television, there would be only on hour of programming a night from all the networks combined!

Seriously, My Network will keep up this schedule for at least a year. They'll have a chance to see how the ratings do for 4 different series in each time slot. If the "short dramatic series" thing isn't working, they'll go in another direction.

Yeah. They'll soon realize why primetime shows run once a week as opposed to every stinkin' night....

Cheers :D
