What's the Status on the "UHF discount"?

I recall reading that after digital transition the FCC was going to eliminate the UHF discount for the biggest station owners, then eventually eliminate it all together.

What's the status on that? Or have they decided not to go that route anymore?

Still in place, last I looked, albeit of course now based on the virtual channel number. I suspect it's been low on the FCC's priority list, if only because it really hasn't been tested by anyone lately. The biggest O&O groups (CBS, NBC, Fox) have been shedding smaller stations, not adding them. Without getting deep into the weeds on this one, I suspect only ion would really be badly affected by a change in the UHF-discount rules...and, really, it's not like ion is going to be a monopoly threat any time soon.
