What's This? A New Radio Station? On AM-600KHz???

Recently this past weekend, and even last night,
I was scaning around on the lower end of the AM dial;
between 530KHz and somewhere aound 800KHz.
Just happened to stumble onto 600KHz and heard a station
that was coming in pretty strong.

This station was playing some type of nostalgia or easy listening format
on Saturday, and on Sunday they had on a ballgame of some sort.
and last night they were playing either easy listening or nostalgia.

I live in the vicinity of 63rd & Austin, and this station was coming in
like gangbusters they had never announced their call letters nor their
frequincy of where they were broadcasting from.

Can someone on this boaed tell me what is going on here?
What station is this???...

Is the station audible during daytime as well? The one station that is audible during the day on 600 kHz is WMT from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. WMT is news oriented station. At night there are several possibilities.

WMT plays some standards on the weekend, but I would think you would have heard call letters if it was them.

It was probably WMT. I happened to listen to a few minutes of the Vikings game Sunday afternoon on WMT while the Bears were in Halftime. My guess is that their might be a good snow cover around Cedar rapids and therefore better ground signal.

UPDATE: What's This? A New Radio Station? On AM-600KHz???

Last night I tried to tune in AM 600KHz,
the station was blank nothing was aired last night.

I was listing to AM 600KHz in the bathroom of my basement
Apartment, while using the washroom. Somehow the reception
is great the bathroom for some odd reason.

I'm using a Grundig Emergency Crank-up Anylog radio.
It has FM, AM SW1 & SW2 with a small built in light.
Paid $50.00 at Radio Shack.

The ballgame was definitely Minnesota Vikings football on WMT (having a decent AM radio is a fine way to get extra football coverage for those of us who won't pay for Sunday Ticket) if the original poster was listening during the day...at night, I'm not sure if WMT runs Westwood One Sunday Night Football coverage or not.

I'm pretty sure it was WMT. The atmospherics have been very good these past days on AM. Here in Waukegan, I've had no trouble at all getting CHWO 740 from Toronto, & even KDKA 1020 from Pittsburgh, all during the day. I have an extensive radio collection, including a Sangean CCRadio that's the best on AM, & a $50 Degen DE-1103 LW/AM/SW/FM portable radio that gives the CCRadio a run for it's money on AM.
______________

If you want to check out what stations are usually heard on the AM band in Chicago during daytime, check the list I compiled for the Chicago Area DX Club:

http://home.earthlink.net/~dxchicago/AM_Chcgo_Scan.htm

I am working on updating the list, which was first made available in 2001. The last update was in 2003.
______________
