word is, the bank is not happy with GAP, and if the bank isn't happy, nobody will be happy, and nobody will be left.

Cspot, where are you getting this information from? Can you provide a link, I am very interested in reading about this.
Thanks.

you will not see this kind of information on a link, you hear it Management, wanna ask someone over there if this is true? cuts this week in Abilene and Witchita Falls, no secret to them.

I don't know if this information is entirely accurate. Gap is actually expanding. I read the other day they just created "Gap East".

That would be interesting if they were expanding. Simply becuz they have had the axe swinging for such a long time within that company.... then all the sudden they supposedly pick up some more stations. However, if you are correct.... the swinging axe would have freed up some cash for the company. However, I just can't see how they could be expanding even if they did have some freed up cash. It goes against everything the GAP CORP. has been doing since taking over.

What sucks... is that there are some really talented people who work for GAP and little by little they are being driven away, reduced to nothing or simply let go.

Just read the article....

HOLY HELL!

I truly cannot believe that. I love the line in the press release "In each market that it serves the company strives to become the preeminent provider of local content through its over-the-air and online offerings."

Ha, Ha, Ha! Oh Really? When does that begin? Ha, Ha, Ha!

It does absolutely amaze me that they are expanding the company while killing the stations they already have. Holy Hell. Unbelievable.

the information is totally accurate it was reported on this website along with others, so...cuts in Abilene and Withita Falls(tell those out of work and those who will be next, We're EXPANDING!) Ironic isn't it.

Another school of thought.....GAP is expanding b/c their belief in radio is real because they are proven radio people. That's a signal of confidence the entire industry should be cheering about!! Interesting when a sub par employee is released because of weak performance then fingers are pointed in the wrong direction. In most cases, those yelling the loudest should take a look in the mirror. IMHO.

With all due respect... what exactly has GAP proven? Besides the fact that they would rather go with voicetrackers and syndication? The way I see the actions of GAP... it doesn't come across as confidence... it comes across as greed. You cut people left and right and then you annouce that you are expanding? How could anyone see that as confidence?

However, these are just my opinions.

I don't know you Crow, but I do know your situation. At this point everyone on these boards do. IMHO I would let it go. Yes I do understand very well what it's like to be in your shoes. Nothing personal I've been where your at. It sucks I know. But the radio world is a small one (these days it's getting smaller by the week). You may interview one day with somebody who has frequented these boards. Just be careful what you say. Just a free tip from someone who can relate with you more than you know.

No, I totally understand what you are saying. However, I am not looking to work in radio anymore. I have no desire at this point. I just enjoy discussing the industry.

GAP East is set up as a separate company even though they share some equity backers. If lenders are unhappy with GAP Central or GAP West, they may not opt to participate in GAP East.

I haven't heard anything good about GAP. They're not investing in their markets, their people or their equipment. At least that's what I've been told so you can take it with a grain of salt, or not.

Without starting some sort of angry back and forth....

I am just curious... S McCoy... you seem to be a huge fan of GAP? I only say this based on comments you have made when it comes to GAP. They are always very positive. Like GAP is doing such great things. Once again, without turning this into some angry back and forth... I believe we can all simply discuss this... I just find it hard to see what GAP has done positive? Also, understand... I know GAP is not the only radio company that is screwing things up for the industry. However, they are one of the three majors in Lubbock... so this is why they are discussed here. I mean... are we missing something about GAP that you know of and we don't... something positive? Cause I and I imagine many others can give you a laundry list of negatives about GAP and many other radio companies... but you seem to be a huge fan or at least a supporter of GAP. So, without sounding like a smart ass... could you fill us in?

Also, you seem to feel that if anyone bags on GAP... calls them out for their BS etc... that they are a sub par ex-employee that was let go for good reason etc... Where exactly does that reasoning come from? I mean, do you know the work track records of all ex-GAP peeps? Or are you just assuming that since they are saying negative things... that they must have been low performing employee's who got canned? Once again, without being a smart ass... could you fill us in?

hey Birdman, my guess is you will never hear from this GAP cheerleader again on the matter. rah raw ;)

What we have to remember is that we are in a recession. Revenues are down and does not look to be coming back anytime soon. My point is that in a time when times are tough, it is an interesting concept that banks are still investing in radio (ex: GAP East...STILL...and that the medium that we all are very passionate about is not dead. People always come and go and thruout my long career I have seen some talanted people unfortunately treated unfairly. In some of those cases, those casualties were not willing to change with the industry or wear that extra hat required in todays environment. Remember in the 21st century this is now more than ever a business. I am a fan of great radio...
