What's up at WCRN

I tuned into WCRN this morning just before 6 a.m. and they were off the air. I tried back around 6:30 and they were back on but running the syndicated Doug Stephan show instead of Peter Blute.

By 6:45, they were off the air again.

Also, I noticed on their website yesterday that they list a financial show "Protecting your Wealth" weekdays from 4 to 5 p.m. but still list Howie Carr from 3 to 7 p.m. When I tuned in yesterday at 4, they were indeed running the Howie Carr show with Colonel Hunt filling in for Howie. And still no mention of Boston Red Sox baseball so I'm assuming they aren't carrying the games anymore.

They were also off yesterday morning between 5am and 5:30am. Sometime after
5:30am they were on air with the Doug Stephan Show. So, now that Hank Stolz
has not been on for the first two days of the week, we are left to wonder if something
is afoot. Anytime a station with, (alleged) financial problems suddenly has other programming
on the air, it makes you wonder if the axe has been swung. Or maybe it's just vacation time,
but doesn't seem likely since I believe the Worcester market is into the spring rating period.
Has anyone heard of any impending changes?

They updated the website again.

Peter was back on around 7:15. He said they were having technical difficulties and Hank was holding 2 wires together to keep the show running. Hank will be back tomorrow morning.

I noticed that they updated it for the "Protecting your Wealth" financial show but why haven't they added Rich Teter to the schedule page? Is he still on? I usually can't listen to the radio at that time (1 - 3p.m.).

And I still think Worcester area listeners are going to be dissapointed without the strong signal of WCRN airing Red Sox games this season. The signal of WVEI-AM juts doean't cut it in the suburbs.

Just got an e-mail blast From The Teter On The Edge Show WCRN has pulled the plug on his show I guess having well known guests on an entertaining fast paced show in the afternoon must have sent shock waves through their "audience" so they'll go back to re-runs of a show that already aired on their competitor. I hope another station picks him up. He is funny edgy and has great local and national guests. Why would CRN want that???????

I’m actually a little surprised that they dropped Rich Teter’s show so quickly. However the couple of times that I listened, his show seemed more suited to the “hot talk” format that CBS was trying to roll out nationally than the audience for WCRN.

I think the chance is slim to none of Rich Teter landing on another station especially in Worcester.

Clear Channel talker WTAG-AM 580 is not going to add another local show when they get decent ratings with the syndicated programs they now carry during mid-days, Glenn Beck and Rush. And their two local hosts in morning and afternoon drive, Jim Polito and former Mayor Jordan Levy respectively, seem firmly entrenched.

Actually if Citadel didn’t have such money woes, they could bring the first FM talker to Worcester. Worcester’s Pike 100.1 FM already has Frank Foley doing afternoon drive who has a talk radio background. He even anchored morning’s at WCRN for awhile.

WWFX could have Frank Foley and Rich Teter co-anchoring morning’s and offer syndicated programs the rest of the day. Or they could have local hosts during both morning and afternoon drive. If they were to do this with some decent promotion, I think they could take out one if not both of the AM stations currently doing talk radio in Worcester.

[/quote] WWFX is interesting Teter has been doing Fridays from The Fifth Ammendment the last month and Foley does Comedy there. They sure would make an interesting and FUNNY Morning show. As far as TAG you are probably right. Their shows are firmly entrenched. I think WCRN blew it. I think there has to be something out there for Teter.

Well I guess it's now official that WCRN isn't carrying the Sox this year. The game is about to start, and they're airing some kind of paid programming it sounds like.

Yes, some kind of talk show (God Talk at 8, "Your (sic) Are Not Alone" at 9, according to the website).
The site still has a reference to Red Sox poss. pre-empting some weekend shows and the WEEI Red Sox
network still lists WCRN as an affiliate, but it def. seems like WCRN is no longer with them.

"WCRiNsider" had said they no longer have the Sox and someone else said no, the Sox are still on CRN.
The former was apparently correct.

Had some power issues at the transmitter, everything is back to normal now. We were running on low power with a back up for a little while. Thanks for listening.
