Owners everywhere are pushing the envelope to see how much 'talent' they can do without. Let's say WMMO bills $200k monthly...how much will that be impacted by one less employee?
Proably very little, so from the owner's stand point, why not? Especially when you're dealing with formats that need less talent, such as MMO, Magic, LOQ etc. W2W4: big morning show ensembles to continue disappearing al la XL, Monsters. Look for more syndication or possibly 'much more music' approaches with PPMs due to start in Orlando later this year.
However, everything is cyclical. After everyone cuts back...someone will get the nerve (or $$$) to add talent to counter program the competition. If there's a lessen for radio in the NBC/Leno fisaco...you can't make save to make profit without hurting the product. Content will win.
