What's up with 98.7?

Usually, 98.7 Simon comes in clearly in the western end of the Triangle (Chapel Hill-Durham), but lately, I've been getting more static and what sounds like a Spanish-language station trying to break through on that frequency. I thought the Triad's Spanish FM was at 94.5?...

You are more than likely getting the 100kw station licenced to Jacksonville, NC WLGD. They have had transmitter trouble in the past but have taken care of it. To us here in the east, it used to be called Kool fm and was oldies. Next media bought it and changed formats a couple of times. It is now owned by Sunrise out of Raleigh. That signal has always been a blowtorch. I have seen that site in it's best and it's worst. They have replaced the old Harris that has melted down several times. I think the studio is in Wilmington, NC

For everyones information, WLGD in Jacksonville is in the process of selling to Tom Campbell of the television show "N.C. Spin", he once owned a station in Wilson called WGTM, what he will do with this remains to be seen, i believe it will revert back to the oldies format as "Kool 98.7" since another station went
talk.
