What's Up with Bulldog 103.7?

Okay, I'm not really sure where to put this topic as there's not an Athens board. I thought about putting it on the Georgia state board. But it can stay pretty quiet on that board for days.

I figure the odds of somebody reading this thread and responding faster would greatly increase by putting it on the Atlanta board. And for all intents and purposes, one could argue Athens is just one giant suburb of Atlanta.

I took Bulldog 103.7 WPUP off of my presets today. Every time I've tuned in, the station sounds more like Classic Rock station with a hair band flavor instead of a World Class Rock (AAA) station.

Anybody know what's going on over there? Is this part of the Cox changes now that they own the Southern Broadcasting stations?

Yeah... I'll tell ya. They couldn't sell Modern rock. Had to skew older to try to make some money.

But WPUP hasn't been Modern Rock since about 1996... Did they flip back when I wasn't paying attention?
 
Well, Bulldog 103.7 was more alternative than anything in Atlanta after 99X signed off. I would continuously listen to the Bulldog at night taking over 99X's spot since they had the best thing going. Then Rock 100.5 came in and I suspect the higher ups felt classic rock was the way to go. When the switch to classic rock took place, I called Kris on the morning show who told me it was either that or change formats altogether. They even had a vent line at the time which I used to vent my displeasure in all the older music. I am sure that wasn't why the line was set up, but that is what I used it for anyway.

I sometimes like the hair bands, but can do without the Mountain, Bad Company, and Allman Brothers Band. I was okay with the Big Rock Show at 7PM on Friday evenings, but feel a definite void in alternative music locally now. The closest thing to it now on Atlanta's commercial radio is Project 96.1, who can't decide how many older tunes an hour they want to play. They seem to rotate from Guns N' Roses, Van Halen, to AC/DC hourly.

I wonder if anyone is listening to 99X.com.
 
I know they are sitting on a CP to move their tower closer to ATL and their CoL to Arcade. Still a rimshot according to Radio-Locator.com, and a weak one at that--not a move-in.

Bulldog nicely filled a void before Rock 100.5 signed on, when the ATL had no station playing heritage rock.

I could see them swinging back to alt, since 99X is gone.

I was fine with the older music. In fact, that's what I liked about Bulldog. They would play the older stuff that was big on college radio back in the 80's. You could tune in and hear some Smiths, Depeche Mode, The Church, Pretenders, B-52's and REM (Athens icons) mixed in with some new AAA type of artists. Now you tune in and it's nothing but a bunch of AC/DC, Def Leppard, Poisin S**T!!!!!

I've always figured in a hip, music-oriented town like Athens, surely there was enough ad support to fund that station. ???
