What's up with CBS-FM's internet stream?

Is it just me, or am I really hearing double and triple audio in spot breaks on the CBS-FM internet stream this afternoon?

I must admit, it is an improvement over most of the dumb commercials I normally hear, but unless this is some new strategy by management gurus to get more commercials on the stream, it does sound rather hilarious. Maybe they are trying to take the pressure of all the negative financial news off by making their listeners laugh?

What happened to the old stream? It seems that everything started sounding awful when CBS started rolling out their new streaming system on all their stations. Don't you just love the cluster mentality?

Dan H. where are you when the station needs you? Oh that's right, you resigned. :-(

It sounded like the regular over-the-air feed did not cut out for the internet commercials so we heard both on the stream. It was actually more annoying than the usual bad commercials. Also the internet commercials were not timed right so they continued over the beginning of the songs.

But the sound quality is very good since a couple of weeks. It sounds 'bigger' than before. They tweak the processing of the stream I think.

A few weeks ago, when I tuned into CBS-FM's online stream to hear the Big Jay Sorenson show, not a single local commercial was edited out. And CBS normally does a good job in replacing local commercials. On top of that, they have special local inserts during ad breaks through their Beta player (on play.it), so it is quite possible that you could indeed have been hearing three commercials (local + internet stream + web insert) at the same time!

Holy triple audio, Batman! Well, it sounds as if they have finally fixed this.

I remember hearing CBS-FM's stream a few months ago and yes, you're right, they normally did a very good job with replacing local commercials, but this new internet streaming commercial system seems to be wreaking a bit of havoc on the streams of several CBS radio stations. What I heard happening on the CBS-FM internet stream yesterday and earlier this morning was just about the worst I ever heard, but in general, there are now all sorts of little unwanted noises on the CBS radio station internet streams that did not exist before the new commercial system was rolled out.

Take a working system and break it for the entire cluster. Great stuff!

Still, as far as CBS-FM is concerned, it's an improvement over the stream prematurely queueing to commercial break before the terrestrial signal does, and the jock being cut-off in mid-sentence. I believe this problem was fixed.

There also seems to be a problem with the HD-1 and 2 signals neither is sending text on the songs and has been this way since the station moved its studios.

I can say that in sampling 101.1's HD 2 channel online, not one of the song titles were being generated in the player.

Give it time. It seems like there are still problems with the regular over-the-air signal re: audio processing, so let them knock that out before the text for RDS and HD radio. As of yesterday morning, the station sounded miserable again on analog, so they are still tweaking that. One thing at a time... Don't rush them. I'm sure there are plenty of people working hard over there behind the scenes! In time, hopefully everyone can be happy and satisfied! ;D

The streaming spots issues is with Andomedia, which is an outside vendor that does the spot substitution. It seems that they are having issues since CBS FM moved. We are working with them to fix the problem.

Unless someone touched something at Empire, no changes have been made to the audio in well over a week (the on air analog audio). I will be in the office this afternoon to see what's happening there.

The internet stream audio was beefed up. We tightened it up so that the flow of sources was more even. I hope you like it!

As for the RDS, if it were up to me, I would have it running. The problem is access to Empire where these devices are located so the IP addresses can reassigned. Security clearance in such a high profile structure has been an issue for the last 6 years 10 months and change. We are aware of the issues and they are being fixed.

What are you using for soundprocessing equipment for the internet stream? CBS FM is one of the best sounding stations from the CBS owned stations at the moment. It sounds more 'FM like', and that's what I like on internet streams. KROCK sounds also good but Fresh 102.7 sounds a little crappy and flat at the moment.

Orban 1100 PC. I used to own this card and had some special presets I designed a few years ago that I uploaded about 2 weeks ago. The idea is to create a sound experience that has the flavor of radio, instead of flat audio that has elements all over.

BTW: we fixed the spot issue this afternoon. It is covering with ONE!! Spot at a time :)

Sounds fine. Are all the CBS stations in NYC livestreams feeding there audio through this 1100 PC? What I mentioned before, some stations sounded better than others. 1100 PC is a good unit to make the sound better on the livestreams.

B.t.w. I read on the streamtheworld.com website that they offer MPEG 4-AAC. Is this technique in use for all CBS stations already? http://www.streamtheworld.com/news.php
And it's fine that you can listen to CBS Radio via AOL on the Winamp Player. That's very easy for people hated pop-up players.

I don't no what is happened at the moment with the CBS FM livestream but it sounded very distorted and to loud at the moment, as I speak. I hope you can fix that.

For at least the last two days then internet stream is pumped up to the point of distortion. I have to keep the volume low to keep it coming in clear.

Yep, that's the problem. Unlistenable at the moment. The sound was very good but I don't no what happend in the studio but this is not good. I hope they fix it a.s.a.p.

Sounds better...though at times it still sounds like that WHOEVER's on sounds like at times that they're having a bad cold (I'm noticing it VERY BADLY tonight, while Ron Parker is on....) ???

Ron doesn't have a cold ;D

The beauty of the internet is that we can monitor what is happening. The last few breaks I paid close attention and the voice audio sounds fine for streaming audio (a few artifacts, but that is the codec).
