What's up with Drew Carey?

I hadn't seen Drew Carey and his Price is Right show for the past several months and since Bob Barker retired, hardly ever, but my wife has been commenting how much weight he has lost since first taking over the show. I saw him this morning and he doesn't look well. He looks way too thin for someone his height and his hair looks like a cheapy plastic halloween wig. Normally, TV people who sucessfully lose lots of weight usually brag about it or promote some sort of diet or exercise plan. But as far as I know, Mr Carey hasn't said squat. Is he ill? Has he mentioned anything about his weight loss or health? I don't know, because I don't watch his show, but my wife who does, says Mr Carey hasn't said anything. She just says that every week, he looks thinner and thinner.

I saw him on scanning by some entertainment show a couple months back talking about how he lost weight.
Lots of exercise and eating better he said.

Well, that's good. Nice to know that his dramatic weight loss hasn't come with the pressure of filling Bob Barker's shoes.

Well, he does have that about to die look that people with cancer, aids, ect get. However I think its because he lost all his weight so fast, and now he has no face fat. Once that fills in, he should look less like someone who is dieing.

He still just walks through the games. He hardly says anything funny, which Bob Barker
was known for. He has taken the funny of the show down to about 10%. But, I've been
watching a lot more lately, because nothing else is on at 11.

...didn't Gregory Hines say roughly the same thing to Regis & Kelly a few months before cancer killed him?...

My God, I just saw him for the first time in months.

If he's channeling anyone....it would be the original host of the show....Bill Cullen.

When "The Price Is Right" premiered its 39th season back in September, I remember reading some speculation that Drew was taking diet pills. Obviously pills and surgery are what people jump on when a celebrity loses some dramatic weight (remember when Al Roker really slimmed down?). But if he doesn't look well, you have to wonder if speculation like that may be true. I'm no dieting expert, but I don't think you can lose 80-100 lbs. in a few months in a way that is safe for your health. That is apparently how much he lost over the summer.

Maybe "doesn't look well" is just his natural state in the lower-weight range anyway?
Who knows? I'll wait for an interview on Oprah before I speculate.

I heard him say in an interview that he has never felt better. Apparently he used to eat and
eat and eat without stopping...........he learned to portion and gave up sodas he said. He said
sodas were like water to him. I think a close relative passed and he stood back and took a good
look at himself.

I think he looks fine, as I watch him most mornings as a mindless transition from shower to out the door. In fact, he seems to have taken on a Bill Cullen-esque game show look. Nothing wrong with that.

Back when GSN had its "Sunday Night in Black and White" it
would occasionally show episodes of the Cullen "Price Is Right."
Game-show guru Steve Beverly says that one night he and his
daughter (who was too young to remember Cullen) were watching
one of those episodes; she turned to him and asked, "Is that that
Drew Carey guy?".

You're right; if Carey wants to look like Bill Cullen, he couldn't have
made a better choice. Uncle Bill is still tops with me among game-show
hosts.

Carey's not ill, he just got thin - fast. In the early 90s, portly Bay Area news anchor Dave McElhatton lost probably 50 pounds or more in just a few months. Speculation was rampant that he had cancer and was dying. Dave was older than Drew - probably in his mid 60s at the time, so his formerly full face just sagged which made him look sallow and sickly. He did pass away recently (in his late 70s)- but he lived at least 16 years past the rumors of his impending death.

Haven't seen TPIR for awhile but if Carey had given up sodas, maybe Coke & Pepsi will take a hint and not advertise on TPIR, that is if they do. I believe John Tesh had done the same ( gave up soda pop ) many years ago. The last station I had worked at, we carried Tesh and the *rule* was to not place any soda ads to run during his program. Good idea actually, nothing like airing a bit from Tesh going on and on about the "evils" of Soda pop and energy drinks...then comes an ad for Rockstar or Pepsi.

No, Price is too laden with Scooter Store ads to have inventory for Coke or Pepsi spots. Maybe Metamucil-to-go spots would fit better. :)
