What's up with Entercom G'boro?

When surfing the radio dial shortly before 2PM, I noticed that all four of Entercom's Greensboro FM's--- 93.1 The Wolf, 97.1 QMG, 98.7 Simon, and 102 Jamz--- were transmitting dead air. Hmmm... what happened here? Dead air on one station is one thing, but on four sister stations at the same time... ???

Obviously, they were observing moments of silence for the following holidays:

Japan: Kakizome.

Switzerland: Berchtoldstag.

Haiti: Ancestors' Day or Hero's Day.

Ok...that accounts for three of them. Maybe Simon ran out of "everything"????????? ::)

;D Maybe the power went off and they didn't have the money for the gas to run the generator!

Maybe they decided to pull a proof on all the stations at once

Maybe everyone quit

Maybe they were hijacked to Mexico

Or all of the above is alright with me!

dunno what happened...my phone calls lead to nothing

I want to say it was an STL failure...98.7 and 97.1 share a tower....102.1 and 93.1 share a tower as well.....but the AM's (950 and 1510) were on the entire time...which also share a tower...lol

all the FM stations went dead around 2:28 (I was listening to WJMH)...and all came back on around 3:15....I recorded WQMG and WJMH coming back, with WQMG making an announcement..the rest just resumed music...someone tapped the on the mic at WQMG at WJMH about 5 min before they came back on.

if they have a Digital STL/router...which is likely..one failing will take out the entire group...same thing happened at a group of stations in eastern NC...all the FM's went dead...but the AM's never missed a beat..simply because they were on old martis that the fm's wasnt using anymore

Always have. Nothing "again" about it.
Wait, I don't understand.

WMQX had a tower near I-40 outside Kernersville. WJMH is licensed to Reidsville. Its tower should be near there. My signal is lousy. But for a rap station, that's a good thing, Axel.

The tower off of I-40 right outside K'Ville was WKZL (107.5) main many moons ago. It is now WKZL backup. Been that way for at least 10 years. Never was WMQX (93.1)

WKZL (107.5), WMQX-WPAW (Wolf) (93.1), WJMH(102.1), are all on the tower off of rt.68 in Rockingham county. Almost near rt.220. Right now WJMH has burnned up transmission line and is at 5% power.

wow...that explains why they went off the air sunday night for about 30 min...although they have been considerably weak before that....the gf was not happy we were sitting in the car listening to static..LOL

there is a big WKZL billboard right beside the tower that you can clearly see from the interstate....

Gee, how could you really tell the difference.

I am a urban guy, I like listening to 102...they are leaps and bounds better than WQOK in raleigh (102 consistently pulls numbers in the raleigh market) and that piss poor excuse for a urban down in rocky mount (power 95.5) (be Urban AC or Urban...stop being both)...

Jamz is the only station in the entercom building to run live 24/7

there are only a few well programmed urbans in NC..and 102 happens to be one of them...roughly 51% of Jamz audience is not black....

In all the years I have been listening to 102 I have never heard them off the air on a consistent basis like recently...

I could have thought of something better to do there sitting in the car with my girlfriend than listen to JAM's or static (same difference)

Not since the early 90s was it, when their Jamz machine broke??????
That lasted at least a few days before they got it fixed!
[There were actually college-age kids who believed that was true.] ;D

WMQX has been on the same tower with WJMH (Stokesdale) for years. I believe they moved from the small stick off of Peters Creek Parkway (in the swamp). The was an STL repeater in K'ville, but it was NorthWest of town. WMQX operated from a motor home at that site after the tornado knocked down the tower at the studio back in 1990.

93.1 had originally broadcast from the tower off of Peters Creek when it was Wsez, Z93. Then it moved to the tower north of K'Ville as it's main for many years. Tower owned by WLXI Ch 61. Then it moved to the present tower with Wjmh. The site in K'Ville then became the hop site for STL but was also the backup site if needed. When tornado knocked down the AM tower off Peters Creek (that was also the STL for 93.1) there was no way to get the signal to the main site. Motor home set up in K'Ville to stay on the air until new tower put up in 'The Hole'.

I remember visiting with Jeff Silver the day after the tower came down. He had been out of town, and when he got in his car at the airport, first thing he did was turn on the radio - NOTHING! Took a week or so to get the new tower up.

I became PD there shortly afterwards - about the time they had to build the wall around the entrance to keep the water out of the building! What a dump that building is!

Maybe that's what I was thinking of.

Has 102 Jamz been having problems? I've been picking up a Spanish station in that dial position sometimes. I know that's one of the new Spanish FMs in Charlotte, but it's hardly strong enough to reach Charlotte.
