What's Up With KENS-5 San Antonio?

What's exactly going on with KENS-5 San Antonio in that they are using commercials now based on Jerry Springer and an old drug commercial?

Examples: "Kid is watching TV and the father finds a box of remote controls and asks the boy in question why he was hiding them and the boy answers "I learned it from watching you!"

"The host asks in a Springer type setting why you are not watching Channel 5 and then comes out the party in question using expletives and berating her"

Are KENS-5's ratings that bad to use such tactics such as this? Has anyone seen the commercials in question?

KENS has always in one form or another appeased the lowest common denominator in that market. The result is mind candy. SA would rather have a national enquirer environment for news than good journalism. The market is a good study how not to broadcast on either TV or radio.

The cheesy aspects of TV in SA go back almost half a century, driven in part by a similar long-term mentality present in the local newspapers. It's actually more sedate now than it used to be.

KENS 5 has always been the "Ambulance Chasers" in the SA news game, showing the human tradegy highlight reel every newscast. While I hate to admit it, WOAI 4 actually has evolved into a decent newscast.
