WHAT'S UP WITH 'KTU???

http://www.ktu.com/pages/dance/

Okay......

First off, I was led to this site to hear Judy Torres' new freestyle track "Hell No". HOWEVER, they have also put up a couple of CURRENT tracks in there as well (AnnaGrace, Armin Van Buuren, Laurent Wolf, Kraak & Smaak). Which is kinda odd since 'KTU DOESN'T PLAY ANY OF THESE TRACKS ON THE AIR! It's not anywhere in the rotation!

Which makes me wonder what is going on over there because I am baffled! 'KTU did very little with current dance music when they did their rhythmic format from 1996 - 2006. It was more Bee Gees, Donna Summer, freestyle from the late 80's and early 90's with maybe ONE track that was "current" (that is in "quotes" because at times they were late on those adds).

Is Pulse 87 causing this effect?? I think soooooo!!

My one thought.....if 'KTU were to add more currents, would the station sound like it did back then? Because if that is the case, 'KTU would be lucky to get a few listeners because now, dance music fans know better. It wasn't like in 1996 where people were just happy to hear something. Pulse 87 brought out a "brand" of dance music that had been missing for quite awhile. Unless 'KTU went "full blown" with currents, I don't think there will be that increased of a listenership; perhaps some due to Pulse's signal issues.

So.....what's going on???

according to the site's copy, 'this is the site for dance music fans'; obviously the site is where you'll hear this stuff, not on the station itself;
however; Disco was big during Dem Jimmy Carter:
pop dance was huge under Dem Clinton;
perhaps the good vibes of a Democratic Prez Obama will be the 'new dance' catalyst if history has anything to do with it

It would be great if KTU starting playing more dance currents on its full power signal,perhaps it would encourage more dance hits listeners.They do tend to play the same handful of songs over and over,maybe get away from the urban songs and go back to 80s dance and add more new dance songs. :)

KTU sucks. I used to love the original KTU 92.5. Change the name to something else. How about:

Short Playlist 103.5
103.5 New York's repetition station.
If it's new - you didn't hear it here , 103.5
103.5 because New Yorkers won't stand for any new music.
KTU - no, nothing creative about us, 103.5
KTU - this is your Grandma's station

Now that's what I call truth in advertising! ;D

Isn't it wonderful to poke fun at the #5 station in America's largest market in the sales demo of 25-54? KTU is also the #2 cuming station in that demo. What possible resason would they have to change?

David,

That last part of your post is something I TOTALLY agree with and figuring the heck out of.

If CC is "happy" with the numbers 'KTU received then why "flirt" with something that will NEVER get any sort of airplay on the station, based on their rhythmic A/C format? And even if 'KTU went back to adding current dance tracks on rotation, fans that have shifted over to Pulse won't necessarily go back (unless they are in an area where there is no signal).

This time around, the dance music listeners know better.

I brought this up weeks and weeks ago... I also mentioned the reduction of disco era songs if you listen to KTU, you'll notice the changes... it's been slow, but it's changing... Also, if you ever listen to their stream, you know, that when the station went to commercials over air, it ALWAYS played disco songs on the feed, now it throws stuff from like 92-02 on... there is a definate swing in their mentality... and this weekends mix shows were definately less basic pop listener mixes as they had become and much more edgy now... especially last night... driving out to queens with some friends after Furball last night (which btw had some killer dance music) I thought I had Pulse on and it was KTU... I was like oh $h*t you mix it up George... LOL

I replaced KTU's memory slot with Pulse 87 and I havent tuned into KTU since... what are they playing these days? Cascada into Madonna into Fergie into Cascada?

Due to this website, I've actually been tuning in to 'KTU just to HEAR if they have placed any of those other tracks outside of Judy Torres.

Let's see....

"Girls Just Want To Have Fun", "I Will Survive", "Hot N' Cold", "Damaged", "Burning Up", "Hey Ya!" oh yeah and Cascada....."Everytime We Touch!"

JP, do they HAVE "Faded"? Have they PLAYED "Faded?"
