What's up with KVET?

A little birdie tells me KEYE no longer provides the news, and Troy Kimmel is no longer delivering the weather on the Bucky and Bob show. More music, less 'Talk of Austin'?

Wow, so much for live and local. I remember when radio would say XM is not local, radio is.

Gee, Fred, I was expecting some kind words for Troy, or maybe a comment about how Sammy and Bob had a 13 share back when they had a news team and a meteorologist, or possibly some insight into the strategy of crippling one station to make another look good...
Sorry about my apparent error. The bird who spoke to me doesn't know 7 from 42.
Thank you for knowing it all.

yeah. they had a 13 share back in the old days. They havent had those ratings in 5-7 years.

1 when it was a diary world (not in PPM). In PPM the Bucky and Bob show comes in around 15-17th.
2 they arent crippling a station to make another look good. KVET FM cant fall any lower in PPM.
3 You are holding on to a notion that this is a successful station. and its not. and hasnt been for years.

I meant no offense. I was just clarifying the one point I do know something about. We are here to learn from eachother.

So why has KVET been able to create so much buzz, attract high-power political guests and raise thousands for the children's hospital, Blue Santa and other charities all these years? I imagine they moved a lot of product for their advertisers, too.

Thanks Fred. Apologies for the snark. I was just trolling you, since KVET's morning show was in the double digits 12+ when you were the news director there.

I dont know of KVET "creating buzz". Maybe for people over 55 years old. (according to the ratings, thats all who listens)

it all comes down to ratings. KVET hasnt had them. They are starting to slowly climb out of the hole now. The new changes are actually making a difference. And the difference is positive

They were doing pretty well when they had Marcum and Tom Allen on the air a few years ago... But Tom was 'retired' and Marcum is dead...
Clear Channel can Pog Mo Thoin.

KVET has been up and down in the ratings over the past 10 years or so. Overall, it hit in the top 3 a couple of times I believe. It's a little early to say whether the current changes are actually doing anything lasting to the rating or not. The December PPM numbers make me say no, but again too early to really tell. Fred is correct that sometimes the numbers are not the only measure of how a station is doing. My sense is that KVET has been doing okay money wise. However, with a new program director coming in, changes will happen whether they are really needed or not. My belief, based on my experience and opinions and really nothing else, is that the changes being made to the morning show are a bad idea. I also think the move away from the more Austin-centric branding is a mistake. I am interested to see what will become of the Roadhouse and the Texas Music Series. In their quest to pull in younger listeners, those are big weapons.
