What's up with LAT TV?

So as not to hijack the thread about The Tube shutting down...

Generally speaking, Latin American Broadcasters of Houston does'nt even have a flagship because Channel 30 went off the air for some time now. This Station, and KHLM (Channel 43) are the only two spanish-language channels that are not picked up by our cabler, Comcast. From my own standpoint, look for L.A.B. Houston to buy KNWS-TV51 here, and make it their new flagship.

Think they're in a position to do that? They're in the process of selling off two of their licensed stations, K25DM Phoenix and K30DN Freeport, and one CP, K10PY-D Freeport, to Mako Communications for $1.2 million. Of that amount, $500K will be applied to LMA fees, some of which is owed to Mako Communications currently, and the rest as a credit toward future LMA fees. The asset purchase agreement doesn't say in what proportion. Once the sale goes through, KCVH-LP 30 Houston and KVPA-LP 42 Phoenix will be the only stations left in the network owned by Latin America Broadcasting.

I also notice that they've sold the studio that K25DM used in north Phoenix. The satellite dishes are gone, and the KDMA channel 25 signage is off the building. Just within the past few weeks, K25DM has also switched from HSN to LAT TV programming, although not a simulcast of KVPA.

That, and flagship station KCVH being off air for about a month, and you have to wonder what's going on.

Here in southwest Florida, WEVU Television (WEVU-CA 4 Fort Myers/WBSP-CA 7 Naples), which was supposed to pick up LAT TV back in May, is now a part of Univision SW Florida, serving as translators for WUVF-CA 2 Naples (which includes WLZE-LP 51 Fort Myers). I saw this when the calls were displayed at the top of the hour.

WUVF is seen on Comcast Cable; WEVU is seen on DirecTV and DISH Network.

Houston Channel 30 is broadcasting LAT TV-- at least it was over the weekend and last night. When was this channel off the air? I live in West Houston not far outside Loop 610 and have been able to watch Channel 30....showing LAT TV.

(and I think that either LATV or LAT TV should change their name, since it is confusing to have such a similar name. At least with the demise of The Tube music network, there will not be the confusion between the Tube that was on Houston KHCW-DT 39.2 and Channel 55 KTBU (Conroe-Houston) that calls itself "The Tube"
