What's up with Len & Todd?

This morning's show is apparently a "Best Of" but Joe Bartlett and Jeff McKinney, who are anchoring, seem to be pretending that Len & Todd are actually there! They keep saying, "We'll join Len & Todd in a moment ... " "Len & Todd will have some reaction to ... " "Len Berman and Todd Schnitt will be back right after the news ... " etc. There's no mention of why they're not there. It sounds bizarre.

There's nothing wrong with someone taking a day off now and then ... what's the big secret?
 
I guess it's like on tv, if a host takes off; they're replay a relevant clip from the day or week before. Or, maybe they just pre-recorded something just for that day. To keep all the Len and Todd fans, tuned in.
 
Usually they don't try to fool the audience into thinking it's live ... that was my point. It turns out L&T knew they'd be off and prerecorded some material. All the hosts had to do was say so.
