What's up with The Degrassi Reruns on local stations?

What's up with The Degrassi reruns on local stations? Are they not showing episodes in order? Or are they skipping episodes? The episode I watched at 7AM Thursday on CW-20 ended with Rick (who was completely covered in slime after being humiliating in front of the entire school) taking a gun out of a hidden box. The words "To Be Continued on the Screen." So I figured Friday's episode would've featured either Rick shooting himself or shooting up the school, but no. The episode they showed Friday had no connection to Thursday's episode and Rick was fine.

Interesting, I didn't know Degrassi TNG was now being syndicated on local stations, though I haven't watched either series in quite awhile. Degrassi TNG was great in the beginning and was one of my favorite shows but between the brutally mishandled exit of Terri, the numerous drug addictions , and Liberty's pregnancy the show got stale fast. They may as well start re-naming the characters with names like Brandon, Kelly, David, Donna, Dylan, Valerie etc.  ;D

The show began airing on local stations Monday September 4th. The stations are using it to fulfill their E/I requirements. Some stations like CW 20 in Hartford are airing the show Monday-Friday. (They also air an episode on Sundays). Others like CW 11 in NYC marathon run the show on the weekend. (CW 11 Sundays 1030AM-100PM).

That's only because CW11 has worthier programming to air during the week. Trust me, if they could get away with airing it mornings at 4:30 AM a la "Jury Duty", they would.

KTLA in Los Angeles does something similar to WPIX, except it's Saturdays from 12-2:30pm.

Diamond Joe, Degrassi is a great show it does not belong on at 430AM.

And considering that it's an E/I program, they can't show it at 4:30AM -- 7AM is the earliest they can show it by law.

That's a great time slot. If I got KTLA here in Connecticut I'd watch it (3PM-530PM Eastern). I rarely have anything to watch at that time on Saturdays.

DISH Network Superstation Package carries KTLA.

Possibly they are running the reruns by production order, not by airdate order. Just a thought as I've seen it happen before.

Update: The episode that should've aired on Friday aired this morning..

Which then may very well prove my point about running the show by production order 8)

I saw the same thing on WPIX this past Sunday morning. I was puzzled, but I'm really not surprised.

With an "E/I" tag, the really controversial episodes probably won't air, such as the second part of "Time Stands Still", when Rick went on his shooting rampage after being tar-and-feathered. The syndicated package also did not air "Accidents Will Happen", the two-part episode when Manny learns she is pregnant and gets an abortion; this was the episode which Noggin did not show until two years after it originally aired in Canada. And they also skipped the ep right before "Time Stands Still", "King of Pain", where Marco comes out to his mother.

The way Degrassi has been treated in syndication is worse than the way it's been treated by Noggin. The first two seasons were skipped entirely, and with the "E/I" designation most stations treat it as something to fulfill a requirement rather than as a legitimate show that could be run in a better timeslot (perhaps stripped on weekdays at 5:00 or 5:30 PM). I'll just stick to the DVDs, 'cause that's the only way to really watch the show.

In WV, WQCW airs Degrassi weekdays during 5-6PM daily. They started to air the episodes begining with Season 3 at 5 and somewhere mid season 3 at 5:30. WQCW has aired "Accidents Will Happen" with warnings about its content and "King of Pain" and both parts of "Time Stands Still" with part two receiving warnings. They haven't aired the first two seasons yet.
