What's up with WDJR's Signal?

I've noticed for the past week or so that WDJR cannot be heard here in Panama City at all...usually I can hear them....the scan button won't stop on them but I could hear them pretty good......I was in Chipley today and I could BARELY hear them there and that is only about 15 miles from their tower (as a crow flies) which is north of Bonifay.....anyone have the scoop?

Heard it was a blower problem. Don't know why the air interlock didn't protect the tube.
Later heard they also lost the High Voltage Plate supply transformer. Bad luck.
They have been at reduced power for 9 or 10 days now.
Not a good thing while in a ratings period.

Hey '76, did you see last night (speaking of rasslin) that Vince sold the WWE to Donald Trump? Next Monday they are going to have a WWE title match with Randy Orton and HHH instead of having to purchase the pay-per-view! HH of course got the chance for the title shot by winning the 10 man battle royal over-the-top match last night.

Oh yeah, stay on topic, better visit your transmitter sites frequently with this heat.

Ah those "Acts of God" that every station has in their disclaimers......Unfortunately Frogman has had to jump through so many hoops to get the station back up. Had a fan break which caused the station to go to backup power, then he risked life and limb when a fire broke out at the transmitter. He was just able to make it out with everything intact! The Frog did not croak! The biggest reason for the wait has been the delivery of new components. Hope to be back up to full song by later today or tomorrow......Thanks to everyone calling to ask about the signal, and you can listen in at WDJR.com.

hmmmmmmm......kind of strange....isn't that transmitter fairly new? (less than 5 years old....is considered new....they typically last for 15-20 years IF they are maintained correctly)....you are right Stewy, it is a good thing to visit the transmitter sites frequently in this weather and at least once a week otherwise...I wonder if they have a remote temperature sensor for the building temperature? I have them at every site I have and it calls me if it gets over 85 degrees....that has saved my ass several times when an air-conditioners have problems. Just happened last week at my WFLF/WPBH site....at 9am the temp was 76 and at noon it was 89. AC man was called and it was back to 76 by 3pm. We take readings every 3 hours on all our sites including building temperature. All are set to call me if the building gets over 85.

I think it is 5 or 6 years old. They moved it from their old site(WTVY TV tower) to their
new site a couple years ago.
Can't agree with you more about the room temperature sensors, 85 is were I set mine also.
I went in a site in the early 80's and a glass mercury thermometer on the wall was busted(120 degree scale)
from the heat in the building. No one knew until it all died.
3 hour readings although not required by the FCC anymore is a great idea. Autopilot makes it easier.
"Hello...4A room temperature is at the upper limit" Burk speak :)

as long as we have warm bodies at the studio, I will require 3 hour meter readings to be made.....if they take away my warm bodies, I guess I will be installing autopilot.

Just checked again this morning (Thursday) and DJR's signal is not getting to Panama City.....they must have some major problems...coming up on 2 weeks....

Charlie Wooten (cceng) and Stewy:

1. 6 years old

2. I have temperature sensors. I also have two wall-mount 10 ton A/C units. I assure you my TX building stays at a cool 72

3. I also make regular visits to WDJR's site. I wanted to make that perfectly clear that a busted blower and blown plate transformer have nothing to do with 'lack of attention'

4. The pin holding the blower blade came out. Ordered a new unit put it in...while cleaning up the plate transformer arced across and one side came uncoiled. Thank God I was there or it could have been 100 times worse.

Shit happens. It's fixed as of 7pm last night. And you're lying through your teeth if you can't get me in PC. ;D

normally comes in on my office radio (Bose) which is connected to an outside antenna....but I cannot hear it....no BS

Just called the Burk. 100.4%...did the math off the multimeter, 32,051 watts out. I should be kicking Mr. Bose's ass!?

I've got a clean stereo signal on my little boom box here at the office here at Dogwood Ct. Could it be the thick haze of wetness in the form of 90% humidity causing some issues?

BTW: Thanks for listening

Well any good broadcaster listens to their competition.
Just tuned it in at my home. Good signal but NOT in stereo.
Checked in my vehicle also...no stereo light.
One question. Why didn't someone from the station jump in a truck or van
and drive to the factory and get a transformer right after it happened?
Quincy,IL isn't that far. Two people on a station van could do the trip
in 24 hours.

I checked it again this afternoon about 230 as I was leaving to drive to Tallahassee to pick up some equipment from CC Tallahassee and it could not be heard in my truck at all....nothing but white noise. Normally DJR comes in pretty good in my truck....good enough for the RDS to work.

I think they may have more problems. On my way to Harbor Freight(Toys r Us to me :) )
located on 431 North of the Circle around 4 PMish the signal was not good.
Sounded weak with interference. As wattcher said, no stereo light.

Man...had both my HVAC units blow their compressors yesterday. Turns out unit 2 failed first; then unit 1, while picking up the slack, was pulling 45amps on a 20 amp compressor. It was cooling...but barley. LUCKILY I have temp sensors and I was able to shut down while Woodalls saved the day.

As far as Pilots and RDS goes, Y'all musta been listening while I was on 1kw backup here at the studio. (which I run in mono)

All is well. Please, feel free to check your stereo lights and RDS. It's been a helluva month.

Sounded strong this morning. Watchers post reminded me of Smokey and the Bandit. I've had "East bound and down, loaded up and truckin" stuck in my head since reading it.

What do the plate transformer and hvac units have in common?
The AC MAINS. Sounds like the power company dropped a phase
or dealt you some shitty power at some point.
I would check my main distribution panel for damage or loose connections.
Measure all the voltages...phase to phase and each phase to ground.
