What's up with WILM?

At 4:35pm today I hopped in the car upon getting off from work, cranked up the car and radio, expecting to hear Mark and Wendy introduce traffic and weather together, and what did I hear? Mike Gallagher interviewing someone (I forget whom).

Now keep in mind that this was at *4:35* today, 35 minutes *after* Gallagher's show had been ending in the past.

http://www.wilm.com/programs.html still shows Gallagher airing from 1 to 4 followed by "Afternoon Update."

Has Gallagher's show been expanded to 4 hours without notifying wilm.com's graphics person?

Or is Gallagher still 3 hours long and now airing from 2 to 5 (iow on 1 hour delay) on WILM? If so, what does WILM air during the 1:00 hour?

What's going on at 13th and French with this latest CC caper? Is Hannity on WDEL clobbering Mark and Wendy that badly in the 4:00 hour?

Salem's website still shows The Mike Gallagher Show as being fed live from 9 am to 12 noon (Eastern Time) with re-feeds from 12 noon to 3 pm and 3 pm to 6 pm. In the past, WILM ran hours two and three from the noon re-feed and then took hour one from the 3 pm re-feed. If the show has been expanded, Salem's website and Gallagher's website have not caught up either. If the show had expanded, Gallagher's website at least would be making a big deal of it.

Of course, "getting clobbered" (in every daypart) is nothing new for WILM. When is the other shoe going to drop? It's been almost a year since Clear Channel took over. They paid $4 million for a station with a poor signal and which bragged about losing money, and they have done absolutely nothing with it.

Given the Spring book, why would CC do anything?

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but today's Snooze-Urinal says the expected Rush move to 'ILM happens after the end of this week.
That brings up another question: Will Rush air in the 1 to 4 slot to protect the noon news hour like it did on 'ILM in the 90s? That's odd to hear the first hour on tape after hearing the second and third hours live. Anyway, I hope for their sake they are recording the show digitally now. Back then, they recorded the first hour on cheap reel-to-reel tape and the heads always got dirty after a few minutes -- making it sound like Rush was underwater.

Maybe you've noticed, Clear Channel does not exactly trust Arbitron numbers. The company said in a press release last week that it has accepted proposals from more than two dozen companies to develop a new "electronic audience measuring" system. Arbitron's Personal People Meters apparently are too little, too late. Many in the industry think the Arbitron monopoly dragged its feet on updating from 1930's research methodology. The WILM's jump in the spring book for no apparent reason is an indication of how flawed Arbitron's methods are and how unreliable their data are.

What will replace Rush on 'DEL?

John Watson just explained it on the air. Yesterday afternoon, a cable was cut that links WILM's transmitter site to the studio. They were unable to broadcast from their main studio for several hours until it was repaired. How were they able to put Gallagher on the air? They receive the program on the dish at their transmitter site.

Maybe it's a test run of what happens when they get Rush back. They put a computer in the transmitter shed and hook in the dish. They can stop paying rent on the old garage on French Street and run with satellite/automation 24/7. Minimize costs. Improve program quality. Simulcast with WDOV. Maybe even turn a profit.

Has the cable been repaired?

The paper says the station hasn't decided but some type of local talk show, with temporary programming filling the hole for the time being.

It sounded like regular maintenance work, yes.

Instead of uninformed idle chat amongst yourselves, you could have picked up the phone and asked! They had technical problems (phone lines cut near downtown that affected ofices there) that prevented studio programming. Fixed by 5.

This isn't rocket science guys. You can find out a lot just by asking.
