Whats up with WVPO

Driving into NY City today on 80 and went to look for WVPO for news/traffic updates on the way in, and didn't hear anything till almost stroudsburg. Then lost it a mile or so away. Signal totally sucked. And on the way back, same deal. Anyone out there know (or even care) whats up. Everything worked out because 660 WFAN came in good today, so I was able to pick up my traffic from them (And listen to Boomer and Carton who are pretty funny) But just wondering what the heck is going on with Nassaus properties. They seem to have alot of outages recently, Frank took a big dirt nap for like a week 2 months ago, and WSBG, The Hawk and the Bone have had major outages over the last 2 months. Does anyone know if these signals are getting HD upgrades, or is it just too many people cut to service things. Either way, pretty crappy way to run a business.
I scan the dial regularly (old habit from my PD gigs) And haven't noticed any problems w/ the Clear Channel, Citadel or Entercom properties thru the same area. Anyone out there notice outages at any Allentown or Wilkes Barre properties lately?

The Frank outtage was due to those storms that roared through Pennsy back in January, the ones that knocked off a bunch of NEPA stations in the process. They didn't have a back up generator and WFKB was off air for about a week and a half, as I recall.

I can't stop laughing. Actually the power outages are occurring in the GM's office, unfortunately.

Wish I could laugh w/ ya temp... but this is pretty serious stuff. Pretty much shows blatant disregard for the listeners and according to one of the threads in here about the winter book, It seems pretty clear why these stations are shedding listeners. Having signals constantly off the air just shows indifference at best, incompetence at worst. Sad to see stations treated this way, but I think this is just one of many reasons why folks are abandoning terrestrial radio in droves and heading to various other media delivery sources. When XM and Sirius merge, it will create a much more streamlined and efficient radio delivery source and just continue to leech listeners away from traditional terrestrial sources.
Now that you mention it tho... it is pretty funny ;D

This station in particular was destroyed by the current management. They turned their back on Pocono area seniors and none of the stations in this cluster have any consideration for local content or concerns. Ever heard the saying "if I didn't laugh, I'd cry" ?

"What's up with WVPO," if you think about it, has very little to do with going off the air from time to time, unfortunately.

I agree.

These folks have been asleep at the switch for so long, the cobwebs have cobwebs.

Well.. a few weeks later, and I drove past Stroudsburg again to NY, and I tried WVPO just to see what the deal was. Signal was Strong from a little past Bartonsville(coming east on 80) Till I got to the Marshalls creek exit and then the signal got static-cy (is this a word) again... Same thing on the way back yesterday. Is this transmitter still at low power, (I was driving during daytime operation hours.) Or is this thing fixed and just operating crappy? I used to be able to get the signal much farther out, my gut tells me their still stuck at low power, but I'd love to know if this is really the case. If so, no excuse for running at reduced power levels for this long. BTW Dave Ramsey was on yesterday afternoon, did enjoy his program, so I think thats a wise programming choice for this station. Just wish I could have had reception longer.. Signal broke up about 3-maybe 4 miles out past the transmitter...
