What's with G103.3's weak signal?

If you look here the power output of G103.3 with the FCC isn't the maximum for it's level. I thought translators like 103.3 could be up to 250 watts? But G is only 185.

Just look at Alpha's other translators, 94.5 and 107.1. Both are 250 watts. I don't know about G103, but at least I have my answer as to why it's so weak on the northside. 94.5 isn't nondirectional, but 107.1 is.

While the maximum power for translators is 250 Watts they still have to “fit” between full class stations on the same or adjacent frequencies. In the case of G103, it is limited in power and pattern by 103.5 in Austin.

I haven’t listened to 103.3 since they flipped, but in their Alternative day’s, the signal was listenable 35 miles SE of San Antonio on IH 37: where I live in Canyon Lake (the same 35 mile distance to the north): 103.3 was blank. You would start to pick up the signal well around TPC Parkway and 281: by 1863, the signal was gone.

No wonder people say "alternative doesn't work in San Antonio." It was broadcasted on a very weak signal, duh. Too bad The App could have been the only chance that SA would have an alternative station that isn't college radio.

Back on topic: I did use to think that SA translators' signal were best inside 1604.

The translators downtown are best inside 1604. And yeah 103.3's fault is it's weak. If you ask me they should put one of the talk stations on 103.3 and move oldschool rap to maybe 94.5.
