Whats with the AM's

750 - It says they are going to go 15,000 watts. IS that going to happen? If so, you think they will stay ethnic, or symalcast 850am?

1430 - Says they are moving transmitters and increasing there nighttime power. From moving transmitters are they going to be heard differently in places? Will their signal go more west @ all? What about nighttime, does that get better?

Good question. I am wondering the same thing, especially regarding WNDZ at 750AM. I know that NewsWeb has its construction permit to build a third tower and boost its signal. I also know that NewsWeb is trying to change the COL from Portage, IN to Calumet City, IL. I'm of the opinion that they are trying to position the transmitter in order to eventually apply for a highly directional nighttime signal, that will protect WSB in Atlanta. If you were to draw a line from Atlanta to Chicago, Cal City would lie somewhere within its path. I know that Harvey Wells did leave open the possibility of moving AAR programming to WNDZ, but did not say it would definitely happen.

Regarding WEEF 1430AM, it looks as if their application to move to Wheeling and increase of nighttime power has not been approved yet.

Unless the requirement changed on stations being allowed night status on clear channels, I always thought that a station had to be a minimum of 750 miles from the station with the clear channel? In this case, WSB Atlanta. Both Portage and Calumet City are within 750 miles. The only way I could see 750 getting night status is if towers get built near Calumet City (if the COL can get changed first) and have just enough power to cover Calumet City at night. Otherwise the only way for night operation currently is to cover Portage. 820 has a better chance of going on at night than 750, if Newsweb had built the towers for night operations.

I know that WAIT 820AM does have an application with the FCC to change the COL from Chicago to Willow Springs, which sits between Ft. Worth, home of WBAP, and Chicago.

NewsWeb is also trying to change the COL on WCPT from Crystal Lake to Addison.

I received a note from Harvey Wells today; to quote(regarding AAR), "We do not have plans at this point to simulcast on 1470 and the 750 option is still many months away from even being viable."

I believe if Newsweb wants to change the COL on 820, they might have to start operating at night in order for that to happen, which would mean filing a new application for night status and build a tower site for just nights. And 820 Chicago is more than 750 miles from Dallas/Fort Worth, which makes them eligible for night status, if Newsweb is really serious about it.

Like 750, the change in COL is a longshot, and more than likely won't be approved, in my opinion.
