Whats with the radio edits

I was listening to Alt Nation yesterday on the way home..Seems like they're running "clean radio edits" of NiN songs as well as a few other artist, any reason why they're taking the "Clean" route on the rock stations while on the Rap channels its "Mutha F" this and "N" word that??

Alt Nation has always played the radio edit version of certain songs. I think it's just a matter of what version they get hold of first and throw it on the air.

I read on Sirius Backstage that this is supposedly due to the deal Sirius has with Sprint. Apparently, the channels that will be carried on the new Sprint music service will be required to keep it clean (I assume this means typical "broadcast" standards & practices.). I am an XM subscriber (with Sirius Music via DISH), but I still think this sucks for Sirius subs; if Sprint wants an edited version, I think Sirius should produce it separately, not make paying subscribers suffer for it.

Thats a load of BS on Sirius's part IMHO. I pay to listen to the album versions of songs, If I wanted radio edits, I would've stayed with commerical radio. Its also a double standard as well. Guessing sirius doesnt want to play "Shady 45" to the cell phone masses as its too "ghetto" for the sprint userbase.

I read that post on Backstage, too. But I have yet to find anything anywhere else that actually, officially, says this. I asked the guy on that thread to post the email he says he got and he hasn't. I'm not convinced yet that this is anything more than rumor. If someone knows something official I hope they say so.

for what it's worth, I sent in an email about the radio edits and the reply I got back mentioned that "Due to our partnership
with Sprint, some of our music channels will be offering censored music."

Who actually is the censor--Sirius or Sprint? Either way it's a dangerous practice.
