What's with WTKK (96.9FM) ? No Bill O'Reilly ?

What's with WTKK (96.9FM) ? No Bill O'Reilly ?

Hey what's the deal about WTKK(96.9 FM)dropping Bill O'Reilly completely from their lineup? Obviously another radio cost-cutting measure, because, TV or radio, this guy draws huge ratings. It's probably much cheaper to employ the Michelle McPhee's of the world. She's a great reporter, but she simply doesn't have a voice for radio. And no knock to her, she's no Bill O'Reilly.WRKO or some other talk radio outlet in Boston should exploit WTKK's mistake and start airing his radio show again.

Re: What's with WTKK (96.9FM) ? No Bill O'Reilly ?

I know they had thrown it into weekends after giving McPhee the 7 pm slot, but gone totally? Not sure
how well it did in ratings.

(Note: WTKK site says it's on Sundays 1-3 pm. Not sure if that's accurate or not. Note how it says
"Weeknights"... ?!?)

>>Bill O'Reilly 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
>>Bill lives in the no spin zone. The Radio Factor is Boston’s insightful discussion about our country, our politicians and our celebrities, weeknights on Boston’s Talk Evolution 96.9, WTKK.)
http://www.wtkk.com

It may be on in other nearby markets but they may tape delay it too.
Not sure who else would pick it up. WTTT is Spanish now. WRKO prob has no room (it's been alleged
they have to carry Doyle to be able to get Savage).

WOR in NY has him if you can pick it up (can come in faintly here on North Shore in daytime)
8-10 pm on WHJJ in Prov (IF you're down there, crappy signal at night)

Hannity does well but he's not here either

Syndie shows can come in handy though it's best to do local of course. Syndie shows not heard in Boston--
Jones or Air America libtalk shows
Talk Radio Network: Rusty Humphries, Mancow (Tammy Bruce IS on, via WNSH)

Salem: none of their shows are on locally now (Praeger, Medved, Mike Gallagher etc)
unless poss. WROL has picked up one or two
Westwood One: No Dennis Miller here though I think he's on in Concord NH
ABC/Citadel: Sean Hannity, Mark Levin

Premiere: Glenn Beck (on in Worc.; WRKO has run him on weekends in the past though)
Fox NewsTalk: Brian and the Judge (though I think a small station south of Boston has it), Alan Colmes,
John Gibson

Re: What's with WTKK (96.9FM) ? No Bill O'Reilly ?

Why doesn't WRKO pick up O'reilly if he's got good ratings.

Or maybe that's why they don't.

Re: What's with WTKK (96.9FM) ? No Bill O'Reilly ?

My bad.I forgot that WTKK(96.9FM) has a weekly rehash of 2 hours of Bill O'Reilly on Sundays 1-3PM.But his show is a daily show,Monday to Friday.10 hours a week.A 2 hour recap from the week doesn't cut it.They've got 3 hours of the Phantom Gourmet and 3 more hours of Jimmy Myers. Both have more airtime each week than O'Reilly.Ridiculous.

Ummm..they replaced him with live/local talent. That doesn't sound like "obvious cost cutting" to me.... ???

Well, he may get "huge ratings" on TV...but he has not gotten them on radio. On most of the stations he is on...he lags behind the rest of the day.

You don't make a "great talk station" by filling up the day with syndicated shows.

Plus, I think Bill O'Reilly did the "prep" for his radio show as he went up in the elevator each morning. It was basically a rehash of his TV show. ("Last night on the Factor...." Tonight on the Factor...")

I get the feeling O'Reilly thought after his sucessful TV show...that he could basically walk thru his radio show. And he doesn't do well with callers....

While I can watch and enjoy the style of the TV show...I think he lacks what it takes to be a compelling r4adio personality.

While Michelle McPhee isn't my cup of tea.....I like the fact that she is a local talent...talking local topics.

I catch him when I can on WTSN 1270 in Dover 3pm to 5PM

Good point, Keith 321. I've wondered about that too. WRKO is dropping local shows and WTKK is almost all local. In fact, if they had gotten Howie for mornings, they would be completely local from 6 in the morning until 10 at night.

If WRKO is going syndicated and cutting local stuff to save money, why isn't WTKK doing the same thing? Can you make any money with local shows? One of these stations has to be completely wrong, don't they?

Then again, I don't understand the Finneran deal anyway. Horrible ratings and WRKO is fighting to keep him? It's a strange business.

Re: What's with WTKK (96.9FM) ? No Bill O'Reilly ?

I agree, you complain that stations aren't local and then complain WTKK has replaced a national show with a local one. What DO you want?

With the exception of Rush, national shows are bartered.
The networks get to play their commercials every hour and the station pays nothing.

It's a radio tradition.

No cost cutting at 96.9.

Re: What's with WTKK (96.9FM) ? No Bill O'Reilly ?

I admit Bill O'Reilly does overdo it in his promotion of his TV show and other apparel(books,Tee shirts) on his radio show.No question. And I agree that, all things being equal, one would prefer a local show to a syndicated show. But don't equate local as always being better. O'Reilly has forgotten more than Michelle McPhee knows(again,no slight to her-she's much younger ).I liked his show when it was on 1-3pm in the afternoon on WTTK up until last year. Then they expanded Braude & Eagan from 1 hour to 3 hours in that timeslot.I could tolerate 'every tax is a good tax'Jim Braude for 1 hour each day.3 hours a day that's stretching it.
