What's with XLO's skimpy staff?

OK I'll go with the Boston board for this one since it's labeled as Boston,Worcester,& Cape Cod. What's with XLO? Never a bad station but I've noticed of late there are no weekenders. The full-timers other than the morning crew are always on. I checked the website & am not sure who is on early mornings on weekends but my suspicions were right. It's 7 days a week for JayBeau Jones,Rick Brackett,& Mary Knight. I'm sure it's voicetrack city there but they've always had 1 or 2 part timers. I'm hot & cold on this station. They have never sounded bad & have experienced people that could easily make the move to bigger markets. Every so often though they just seem to get into this rut where apparently budget just prevents them from going any extra mile. Is the only way to get the staff more money to eliminate weekenders or are some on that I'm not hearing?

I don't know what's going on there now, but when I worked there in the 80's & early 90's the weekends were staffed with mostly part timers. But they had no voicetracking ability back then (we used carts for everything). I suppose new technology allows them to use staff more "efficiently".

Yeah, I've noticed that too. It's the full-timers 24/7. They used to have part-timers as recently as a couple of months ago, now it's all "in the can" during off-hours. Let's just hope something major (maybe a FLOOD, for example) doesn't happen because listeners will not be able to rely on them.

I don't know who is on early mornings on weekends but doubt very much it's the morning crew. Full timers are also out there on remotes quite a bit too so weekends have to be voicetracked. It isn't the staff's fault obviously but I'm still guessing that the only way to give their people the opportunity to earn more is to give them more work. It'll be interesting during vacation weeks. I know they'll run a "best of" morning show as they've done in the past. Maybe there are part timers lurking somewhere elsewhere in the cluster but The Pike has no jocks. Recent weekender Greg Hillier is now at Coast 93.3 in Providence & there was a Paul Connor recently whose name sounds familiar from the past but I don't recall where. Still, they have good people. If they were doing this with a less experienced bunch it would sound like a disaster.
