What's Wrong with Air America?

CC's WINZ versus Salem's WKAT

In Miami, AAR is on Clear Channel's WINZ, 50KW day
10KW night. Per radio-locator, their daytime fringe
goes almost to Orlando and nighttime almost up to
Lake Okeechobee.

In Miami, Salem owns WKAT, 5KW day 1KW night. Per
radio-locator, their daytime fringe goes to Lake
Okeechobee and nighttime barely covers Broward County.

So if AAR beats Salem, it's partly because of coverage
and signal strength. And maybe even because WINZ is also
promoted on CC's other stations. And of course, Dade and
Broward are among the most liberal counties in Florida.

Springer On The Radio is good

Yeah.

And compared to his crazy TV show, he's almost like
Bill Bennett (zzzzzzz) on the radio.
______________

The Miami market is only Dade and Broward, so whether WINZ gets listening (it doesn't) outside that area is irrelevant. Miami ratings are for the Miami market only. And WINZ wins.

The fact is, the only useful circle in radio-locator is the innermost red one. Countless studies have shown that outside the strong signal area, there is virtually no diary return for a station, especially an AM. Even, in fact, the red curve, is exaggerated when compared to the usable signal contour based on actual listening.

Thank you, David.

Still proves my point about comparisons of Salem and AAR
affiliates in the market.

WKAT's red line doesn't even get into Broward at night.
WINZ covers most of Broward. (That was one of my gripes
about classical WKAT. How good can classical sound with
a fringe signal, if you can get it at all?)

FWIW, WDNA is so far south, its red line goes from Carol
City to Key Largo. What a waste. Do fish like jazz?
______________

Again I dont knwo why people insist on comparing AAR with Salem but if it pleases you.....

Take a look at Salems financial numbers. It doesnt matter how they do it, they are making money. That is the bottom line here. SOMEONE out there wants to advertise on Salem stations.

Simple. More people feel comfortable buying time on a network calling homosexuals evil than they do on a network with bits about shooting the president.
