Whats Wrong with CW 34 (Digital) Jackson, MS

First CW 34 (Digital) Jackson had 'Lip sync problem' in January 2009 but picture was fine even with Indoor rabbit ears (living Jackson Downtown). I was able to get signal strength of about 70%. But now for the last few days picture freeze all the time, I even tried 'Terk amplified Indoor antenna'. I am able to get signal stregth about 80% but picture freeze all the time. Other digital channels work fine even at signal strength of 30%. I am using RCA dtv converter box. Please post your experience if you are getting this problem or if anyone has overcome this problem!

It's not just you. I'm near Northside and State Street and I have the same problem, except I have a Zenith converter box. I also have some trouble with Fox 40 and My 35 at times, but not nearly the amount with CW34.

BTW, whenever I'm watching Fox 40 or My 35 and if the microwave is on, it causes those two channels to freeze. I wonder what gives there. I am planning to get cable or satellite soon, so I won't be having these issues much longer.

thans for replying. I am on poplar Blvd. I think your reception is week because you should not have problem with MNT & Fox at all. I think you should try the direction of your antenna or try Terk Indoor Antenna. It will solve your problem if your signal strength is low for these 2 channels. But for the CW we only can pray but I am hopefull that they may be able to find the solution if everybody has this problem.

You have got to understand that CW34's transmitter is north of Raleigh and near the Burns community in Smith County. You can see the tower going to Raleigh near the intersection of Hwy 35 and 481. So it is understandable that you folks in Jackson may have trouble picking up CW34. If you have an outside antenna you should be OK. I live in Forest about 20 miles from the tower and I am getting CW34 very strongly with a pair of amplified rabbit ears. In fact so strongly that I don't have to turn the antenna very much. My antenna is pointed so I can get MPB at Rose Hill where WMAW's (MPB's Meridian) transmitter is and I still get CW34. If you point your outside antenna to the east you will get it.

I can undterstand but the most puzzling part is that CW used to fine after it went digital but now for the last few days it is behaving really bad. I dont have the option of using outdoor antenna as live in apartment building. Do you get any 'lip sync problem' with CW too.

I wondered if the transmitter location had something to do with CW34. I don't know why the FCC approved of channel 34 serving Jackson with it being so close to 35. But with all the full-power stations going digital, I guess that's a moot point now.

Its been having lip sync problems since going digital a few weeks ago. My guess is they havn't got the bugs worked out yet. I also haven't seen anything in widescreen yet even though the station is in 720p. I can pick up CW34 fine with rabbit ears on the old clunker in the bedroom but I can't get it on the new TV with the long range outdoor antenna. I live between Jackson and Magee so in order to get 34 with the outside antenna unless I climb on the roof and turn the antenna. My rotator doesn't work anymore.
I have an old UHF outdoor antenna I don't use anymore. Does anyone know if you can use a splitter and connect both antennas (one pointed toward jackson and one toward Magee) to the same lead in wire without interfering with each other? or is it best to use seperate coax and use an A/B switch since my rotator doesn't work anymore.

If your getting freezing and drop-offs with an indoor antenna It could be caused by cars passing nearby or trees. I can't watch with rabbit ears during the morning and afternoon. The cars passing wreaks havok on a pair of rabbit ears. I've found that rabbit ears just won't work for digital TV unless you are right under the tower. Most rabbit ears only have good range of 20 miles or so if even that much. Even some of the funny looking amplified outside antennas arent' much better. My brother has one and can't get WLBT on it. The best antenna I've found is a plain "old fasioned" outside antenna( as the news media likes to call them) pointed at the station. The only problem is when you've got transmitters in all different directions such as what you have with CW 34 in Magee, then you have to turn it or get rotator.
If they won't let you put up an outside antenna your pretty much have to live with the drop-offs. I've tried the expensive amplified antennas which can sometimes cost as much as an outdoor one and have found that its not much better and sometimes worse than using a plain jane cheap indoor antenna. I think I paid less than $5 for my pair and it works better than the $30 amplified antenna on my moms TV. Sometimes reception has a lot to do with location. If there are buildings, trees, hills, traffic and especially an airport nearby expect problems. get an outside antenna if possible, you could also buy an antenna and put it in an attic or near a window if outside antennas are not an option.

flytrap u should try outdoor muti directional antenna. I looked one on radio shack site for good price.

But cant say how to will work but seems good if direction is ur problem. Also i think u can join 2 antennas and use 3 way coaxial cable coupler and then try using one input cable. I guess this coupler will be better than cable splitter because splitter is used to split outout and here we need to join 2 inputs. but at same time both can work. This thing should work so may be u can use your old one with radio shack or some other one or join rabbit ears with outdoor antenna. This 'lip syn' most likely suggest week signal strength. May be they will do something but it seems unlikely. i am trying to contact CW to find out whats going on and will post here.

There is a tree in my front yard. Also, I live on a neighborhood street and I would estimate that a car passes by every five minutes or so. I never really noticed the traffic patterns, so that's a pure guess. I never thought either one would have anything to do with reception issues. It could be just how the converter is positioned on my TV.

Hi guys! CW reception has improved since yesterday and i dont have any problem except 'lip syn' now. Hope they will do something about that too. we contacted mamager of CW few days back about problems and i guess he most likely did something. what about you guys, have u noticed any imrpovement?
