What's Wrong with KBKS

Four straight down books for KBKS. What's up?
JACK can hardly be blamed for their demise. Hate to
see what their older demo's look like. Might be time
for a format flip like the new rhythmic in Spokane.
Go jockless and rip into KUBE!!! Four down books, what
can it hurt?

bwbill out..

JACK seemed to affect all FM stations in Seattle. Most are
down or flat. AM NewsTalk Radio had the benefit of a Hurricane to increase
their ratings. Because of JACK and the Hurricane, I suspect most media buyers will throw out the summer book and adopt a wait and see attitude on JACK.
JACK has launched well in other markets and faded quickly. If JACK
continues to have strong numbers next spring it will get on some buys. I
suspect that won't be the case.

I have mentioned before how consistant the Seattle market is, especially
in morning drive. Howard Stern and Bob Rivers continue to own key adult
male demographics. Ichabod and Kent and Alan remain your two strong players
in female demographics. They all do well on a four book and even this summer.

KBKS has declined over FOUR books and that will be a concern to advertisers.
KLSY, KTTH and KWJZ have also shown problems over several books. The drops
on the rest of the FM stations will only be of concern if they continue for
two or three books. Until then the Seattle market remains consistant. The
good solid stations remain good solid buys.

Presentation is dull. Jackie and Bender are "who cares" kinds of talent. Their latest fugitive contest is lame. At every turn, they sound like a station programmed by middle to old age boomers who are trying to be cool and think they know what "kids today" like to listen to.

Having young people on the air (which KISS has for the most part) does not guarantee the station is relevant to younger demos. Overall, they just don't have "it."

Agreed. I like the "attack KUBE" jockless concept.
Imagine the impact in morning drive where T-MAN talks non-stop.
Between KUBE and KLSY, which was flat this book, KBKS has no
where to go.

But if you go "jockless" you always risk having a personality station kick you where it hurts.

Why would a station targeting a younger demo EVER THINK of going jockless? What then would make that station any more relevant to a 23 year old socialite female than her own I-Pod (which allows her to hear her favorite song on demand)? It's not about the jocks getting in the way of the music, it's about jocks not being able to entertain and speak on the same level as their target...I don't think KBKS is doing that poor of a job, musically and talent wise they sound as good as anything else out there in CHR land.

LOL KLSY, haha talk about a station that's doing poorly. It's been flat yet again for two books now, and is the lowest rated FM station covering the entire market.
