What's Wrong With Oldies Formats and Radio in General

**Blech!**
That is about one step removed from the current happy talk Soft Rock or whatever they are calling that crap now format.
I've always felt Oldies should morph with the overall audience -and that mid-charters have their place on the playlist. Even if you didn't work rock or top 40 in the '80s, you heard all of the currents, recurrents and selected oldies during those years to be overly familiar with them. To get a "Hey, I remember I LOVED that song" reaction you need to go mid-chart with an eye towards record sales of the period. For example, remember ELO's 'Out of the Blue'? Many tracks charted BUT only a few made it to the top. The album sold like hot cakes. Wouldn't it make sense to reach deeper into the album for the playlist? Add things like ELO's "Birmingham Blues," some of the Steely Dan mid-charters from Aja like "Black Cow."
Just my wish....

I think if the delivery is upbeat like a top 40 presentation and if they keep the slow elevator type overplayed stuff out, it could be fun, esp. for the target demo. Hey, oldies draws its audience, this format reaches to the 80's and 90's generation...its the new hot ac minus the micheal bolton and the like...it is what a 25 - 54 year old woman remembers was fun but still staying current with mainstream top 40 hits.

It's commonly referred today as HOT AC.
