What's your BEST NOON-Time AM DX ?

Good conditions recently. This week heard WEEU 830 Reading, PA on car radio in parking lot at lunch. This was in Elizabeth City, NC. Lots of jumbled channels but did not have time to ID more new daytime catches. I've heard WEEU before at sunset.

From Ridgecrest, CA on Global Tuners (Mohave Desert), I logged KOMO 1000 Seattle at 11:55AM. Weak weather forecast and heard mention of one of the local KOMO forecasters (Theron Zahn). Over 800 miles!

Not quite noon, but Thursday 2pm CST between Louisville, KY and Evansville, IN, I had a good signal on WTAM/1100 from Cleveland....probably about 350 miles or so. The oddity is that there was no other apparent skywave.

Right now at this time of year there are several Trans-Atlantic stations audible here in Newfoundland just after high noon and through the afternoon.

Some of these include 1377 - France, 1422 Germany, 1341 - Northern Ireland , 1053 & 1089 England and 1044 Spain

Another couple of weeks and there will be signals 24 hours a day with the shortest day of daylight approaching

Please keep us posted.....this is all great to hear about! And, just after noon time!

Truly amazing. How many hours of daylight do you have in December?

In Vallejo

I tried today at 1 pm..nothing on 1070 or 640, I asumming at 12 is static too

The only time I start hearing KNX is at 3:30 pm

On a good day (like today), up into Ottawa Ontario, New York's 1130 WBBM can make its presence felt, but just barely. By mid-afternoon, many of the east coast Americans, come rolling in like locals.

I believe Cyberdad has mentioned that he picked up WBBM in Ottawa midday during the winter.

I think Tincap intended to reference WBBR from NYC, not WBBM. However, it would not surprise me if WBBM could be heard in Ottawa at times during the winter daytime.

I've heard WBBM in downtown Ottawa during the winter solstice period in the daytime at no0n. Without the aid of any external antenna.

Northern VA, I can hear WHLO 640 Akron, OH, a trace of it, as Philadelphia's Radio Disney 640 is either off the air or on low power, at 1 PM local time.

+1

Only in my case it wasn't downtown. It was in a rental car radio on Hunt Club road out by the airport. (That's about 6mi/10km) south of downtown.) This was about 5-6 years ago.

Yesterday around 2pm I went to a local park on a cold and cloudy day and got great reception on my car radio (Kia Soul). I got a Spanish signal on 860 which was either foreign or WFMO Fairmont, NC (1000 watts).

940 WINZ was coming in very well, even with a semi-local at 950. 570 out of Cuba was clear enough that you could understand it if you knew Spanish. 770 WLWL was listenable in the car.

610 had a signal under WIOD (possibly Charlotte at 5kw).

From NE NC on the car radio. We had great daytime conditions this past Tuesday, 11DEC12 from 12:15 – 12:30 PM EST. (Solar noon was 12:00.)

650 WSM
660 WFAN
710 WOR
750 WSB
770 WABC
880 WCBS
890 WLS
1520 WWKB

The first time for WSB and WLS at noon. Strong interference on 740 over WMBG was probably CFZM. Had to get back to work.

Conditions were back to normal Wednesday with just the NYC clears heard.

Nice conditions today. 2PM in Monroe, WA

960-CFAC Calgary, AB listenable
1060-CKMX Calgary listenable
1190-KEX Portland
1260-CFRN Edmonton listenable

That's correct, my bad! It's WBBR which I can haul in during mid-day winters, although I'll have to give 780 WBBM a whirl.

I predict you'll snag WBBM. It seems to propagate quite well in your direction. In addition to Ottawa, I've also heard it daytime in Winter on car radios in London (ON), Kitchener-Waterloo, and northwest of you on highway 15 just outside Smith's Falls.
