What's your oldies station?

Just wondering....what is your oldies station? What does it sound like? Who's it owned by? Do you like it?

Our Oldies station here in Greenville, SC is WOLT-FM. It goes by simply "103.3, WOLT." They play a lot of 60s with a modest amount of 70s thrown in and a few 50s songs every hour. Yes, to quote them, "not afraid to play a real oldie." It is managed by Davidson Media Group.
It sounds pretty good to me.

Sorry to say I don't have a favorite oldies station these days. The local guys, WMQX-Oldies 93, haven't been the same since they emasculated Jack Armstrong with a "Breakfast Bunch" morning team and then shafted him a few months later.

My favorite long-distance oldies station, 1530-WSAI is long gone, as is my hometown favorite WWMG-Magic 96.1. In the big city of Hickory, NC there's 63 Big Ways-WAIZ, they're okay but too far away to listen to here...then again, I've yet to hear the thing that made the original Big Ways so magnetic to my ears: great personalities to go with the best music.

I can't believe the world has forgotten how to do great radio so quickly. Oh well, let's turn the channel and get back to the TV biz.

I remember Oldies 93, it's not as good without Jack Armstrong, but still it's a very good oldies station. We suffered here for almost a year without one in GSP, trust me, ANYTHING's better than nothing!!!

I just ordered my Sirius reciever for the car, I'll have to let you know after I've got it hooked up and listened for a while. It's about the only thing we have left....

Obviously due to my location, I loved New York's CBS-FM until its demise. In the car I tolerate DRC-FM in Hartford since it's the only over-the-air game in town I can pick up since Cox Radio's Stamford/Norwalk FM "Kool 96.7" became "The Coast". Of course, whenever I have a computer with internet I listen to my own oldies station, CapitalRadio.us.

For those of us in Connecticut there's not a lot left as far as terrestrial radio goes. Sure, there's Shannon's True Oldies Channel on a Danbury AM, but how long can one listen to his ego-fed imaging?

Here in L.A., we have K-Earth 101 (KRTH-FM 101.1). They are owned by CBS. They seem to have such a short playlist, since they dropped all the pre-Beatles stuff.

During the summer, I live in Ojai, CA, and I listen to KVEN-AM 1450, "The Boomer," licensed to Ventura. They play the stuff K-Earth doesn't even lay a hand on, as well as stuff K-Earth used to play, such as doo-wop (anyone know of any other oldies stations that still play doo-wop?). (KVEN is also the Dodgers station there). KVEN is my favorite oldies station because of their music. They even play reruns of the Wolfman Jack Show on weekdays from noon to 1:00 PM and on weekends from 7:00 AM to noon. I also like their jingles. They do them to the style of their music, mostly doo-wop-style.

Are there any other oldies outlets left in the LA area? I remember the old KRLA and KCBQ when they were doing oldies, but I never hear any talk about the format except for K-Earth in recent days.

u are one of the few who thinks so. they are 13th overall and 16th 25-54. "not afraid to play a real oldie" isn't getting them far these days

so what was the carolinaradiodude or whatever referring to?

I think he means that WOLT hasn't been on the air as an oldies station for a month yet...it's only been on for three weeks, and as such, has not been ratings-released yet.

they must have changed freqs. or something cuz those calls have been oldies in that mkt previously

Yes, it was, 103.3 WOLT and 103.9 WOLI were oldies from 1996-2000, when they were owned by Sinclair...

1996-2000 Oldies
2000-2003 80s
2003-2005 "The Walk", Christian Contemporary
2005-2006, 103.3 was Urban Gospel, 103.9 is Spanish
2006 103.3 is now Oldies and 103.9 is Spanish still

I'm NOT a wannabe. I was very successful in the biz but have gone on to better things (though radio is still a hobby).

Sorry folks but my oldies station is my I-pod. I have 10,000 mp3's. If I want Sinatra I can hear "That Old Black Magic" all day. If I want oldies I can hear the Champs or the Anmals or the Buckinghams and all the O WOW cuts I can handle. If I want nostalgia, I can choose Benny Goodman and 1 o'Clock Jump or Tommy Dorsey and Opus 1, or Artie Shaw and Jungle Drums. Who needs some 20 year old kid mispronouncing "Eydie Gorme" or some guy in California picking my music.

We've HAD 3 "music of your life" type stations here, and I don't care if a new one ever signs on. Grand Rapids radio totally sucks.

If I have WGN from Chicago and my I-pod I'll be fine.

Since 2001 -XM 50s on 5, 60s on 6 and 70s on 7, and added Sirius Gold, Vibrations and Totally 70s in 2002- no need to go back to terrestrial.
