Enjoyed the show, looking forward to next season.....but....
They need a new host. Steve Jones seems like a nice guy, but he conveys no personality on the show. I don't care about his accent, I just care that he adds nothing of substance to the show.
They could steal Ryan Seacrest from Idol and E!. Put Randy Jackson from Idol to X-Factor and Piers Morgan from CNN to X-Factor USA. Nicole was too phony for me and Paula.
London's
Mirror reports that
Steve Jones will not return for season 2 and may be replaced by Nicole Scherzinger. Nicole, interestingly, was cast as the original host of the show, but the casting change that saw Cheryl Cole leave after two rounds of auditions made Nicole a judge and Steve Jones her replacement.
I personally doubt they would want to bring over Ryan Seacrest or Randy Jackson because then the show becomes
American Idol 2, although I like Randy much more than L.A. Reid. I think L.A. will stay on the show, though, simply because they need that anti-Simon character to keep it interesting.
I'm not sure that I'll stay with the show for a second season. I enjoyed it but it was an exhausting series to watch and keep up with. It seemed that they did much more on
The X Factor to build the "human interest" side of each contestant compared to what they do on
American Idol. It got to a point where the talent level was so deep and the emotional buildup ran so high that it was hard to watch anyone get eliminated.
Melanie Amaro was clearly the front-runner through the entire final 12 but I wonder how her music career will go long-term. How many big-voiced women have hit the pop music scene in the past ten years? Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga...the list goes on. There isn't a huge need for someone like Melanie Amaro in pop music right now. However, I would agree with Paula Abdul's statement that there is a gap for someone like Josh Krajcik. He's been described as a "male Adele" and there really aren't many acts like him at the moment. The same applies to Chris Rene. I look for either of those guys to do well if someone can invest in them and let them do the music they want to do (and not the canned tuna they come up with for
Idol winners).
First season gets a B+ from me.
