WHaTT's a "Tammy Oakland"?

So I'm driving in my car today, and I happen to hit the "Mix 104.1" button (something that happens a lot less frequently lately), and I hear "Tammy Oakland" in mid-days.

So, I get back to work and check out "Tammy Oakland" on the google. Turns out she's the mid-day chick (and I'm not being politically incorrect - check out her bio page) from "The Peak" in Colorado Springs.

This is what we get to replace Pastrick? A morning-show sidekick who tracks mid-days in market #94? The Peak appears to have peaked a few books ago. They were number one in Fall '08. They're #5 now. More Citadel "magic"?

Geez, at least "Jayne" who VTs Syracuse for Citadel would be in the same time zone. On the other hand, she'd want to be paid. "Tammy" likely just got "a promotion" (more work, same pay).

Outside Track

Nah. Jackson Armstrong, for one, was tracked from outside of Buffalo during his return on 'KB. Don't know whether John Tesh and Kim Iverson are tracked or full syndication. Delilah I believe is full syndication.

And: it has to be said that the VT'ing of the late-great Jackson Armstrong on the (briefly) reincarnated WKBW 1520 was one of the finest VT jobs I've ever heard. VERY artfully done. Once again, kudos to Hank Nevins and his Merry Men along with Your Leeeader.

WHaTT's A TAMMY OAKLAND?

From Tammy's MySpace page: "The greatest pain that comes from love is loving someone you can never have." Wow! This woman is deep. Wonder if Rita in Amherst will buy into that Colorado Springs' deep voice tracked sensitivity. Think WJYE and Star are deeply worried?

I heard that Roger Christian considered changing his name to "Roger San Francisco" just to make sure that he outclassed her.

Agreed. But I'm talking about someone who is probably pretending she's in Buffalo and hoping no-one knows the difference.

I'm not sure Jackson Armstrong counts here...he was unique, and the show was very much crafted for Western New York audiences...even from a studio in NC...on a modern recreation of a station where he once worked.

This one's just a random woman voicetracking an ordinary show from a far away market with no personal connection to Buffalo.

So, you're saying that there's a difference between good voice tracking and bad voice tracking...

Tammy's pretending to be in Buffalo. I heard Bill Lacy say that she'd be announcing a contest winner later in the day. To be honest, I haven't heard enough from her to have an opinion as to the quality of her work. From what I've heard, she doesn't sound like she's from WNY, or even the Eastern US.

The difference with Jack was that he had been here, knew the area, and did a lot of localization for the show. I'm not sure if he did the research, or if it was fed to him by somebody at 'KB. Either way, it was an exceptional VT presentation - and far better than any other VT I've heard anywhere else.

The drawbacks of voice tracking are evident especially on days like this, when the Buffalo area is coping with a plane crash that took 50 lives. A live person on the air at any station would be better able to relate to, report and update news and reaction, to say nothing of knowing the communities and people affected by the crash. As far as Jack Armstrong's voice tracks are concerened, to borrow a line from a political debate years ago, "We all knew Jack Armstrong. Tammy Oakland, you're no Jack Armstrong." Hope she practices pronouncing the names of those wonderful Polish, Italian or Unkranian contest winners... to say nothing of Cheektowaga, Scajacuada or Tonawanda.
