WHBC host leaving

How does a guy go from New York and San Francisco to Alliance and Canton? It reminds me of the 1960's host of the syndicatged "What's My Line?", Wally Bruner. Bruner's career downslide was summarized as follows: One year, you're President of the Washington news division for ABC. The next year, you're the beat reporter for the local news. The next year, you're hosting What's My Line?.

I'm surprised WHBC-AM moved quickly to replace its morning co-host given that WHBC-FM still has not replaced Fig as PD and PM Drive host.

Not that surprising..Matt Fox (Of PBS' Room By Room Fame) has done a lot of filling in for Fred or Pam Cook when one or the other has been out in recent weeks..I think Fox has done a credible job..

I've heard that Fred moved to the area to look after his parents, who lived in Alliance at the time.

Why is Canton part of this blog? I see Cleveland-Akron as thats how the TV market works, but lumping in Canton? Has a Canton station ever showed up in the Cleveland ratings? I don't think it belongs. ???

The Cincinnati boards include discussion of Dayton/Springfield radio, so Canton here makes sense to me. Isn't Canton in the Cleveland TV market as well? Anyway, I remember visiting my grandparents in Mayfield as a kid (I'm originally from Cincinnati), finding the Plain Dealer's TV Week and looking at the radio station listings, where several Canton stations were usually listed.

Right. Dayton is not part of Cincinnati. Way north and a whole separate market. To me in Cleveland what goes on in Canton may as well be Columbus, or Erie, or Toledo. No biggie. Just saying.

Akron/Canton stuff has traditionally gone on this board.

Most of the major stations south of the Turnpike can be heard through most of the Cleveland market, and as mentioned, it is the same TV market - including Canton, as the official Nielsen market name is "Cleveland/Akron (Canton)".

It just makes sense, and heck, even Youngstown stuff occasionally shows up here.

To me, the "Ohio" board is stuff outside the NE Ohio, Central Ohio or Southwest Ohio areas.

RI should rename this board "Cleveland/Northeast Ohio" to avoid confusion. I'd also like to see Cincinnati renamed "Cincinnati/Dayton".

Not really necessary. Most in Northeast Ohio know to go here, and most in Southwest Ohio know to go to the Cincy board.

Agree. Call it what it is.

Is it still there?

Why make a big deal if Canton should be included? Seems like just a way to be snarky.

Fred deserves some ink. 12 years at the same station, a few more in Canton before that. Able to retire and not worry about money?

My hat is off.

Canton stuff has always gone on this board, dating back to the old Buckeye Radio Board (remember that?) before there was even a Cleveland R-I board.

The media markets are too close to each other for Canton to go elsewhere.

And my hat is off to Fred as well.
