Surely related to the other Memphis moves, Flinn threads the needle trying to pick up disenfranchised FM100 listeners.

Joe Mack in afternoons, Syd Neighbors in middays, morning show announcement next week.
"Current FLINN Top 40 WOWW (B977) will simulcast Q1075 for a couple days until a new format is announced."
 
Well, it looks like Cumulus let their opportunity for 98.9 slide. Then again, none of the Cumulus stations show in the ratings so it could be doing well. Could 98.9 pick up the classic hits format if it isn’t doing well, though? I didn’t think 107.5 was a very well executed classic hits station.

I’ll take a listen in a bit, but that logo doesn’t have me impressed so far.
 
Seems a little odd. FM 100, a Hot AC station, will soon be switching to K-Love. So 107.5 has flipped to Top 40? Hot AC and Top 40 are not the same format. Close, yes, but each serves a different audience.

Also WMC-FM is 200,000 watts, WHBQ-FM is 3,900 watts.

Unless something changes the plans that had been announced were that 94.1 would either go to K-LOVE or Air 1 when EMF takes over and that the country format on 94.1 would be moved to 99.7 and that FM 100 would end. But Audacy deserves the blame for all this, not EMF.

I don't think Audacy is done dealing in Memphis. It won't be soon, but I still think there are moves being made that will play out in other markets that will affect Memphis directly. I can see Audacy getting out of Memphis completely if the right offer were made.
 
I worked for flinn in another market and this move doesnt surprise me. They are kinda.. different and march to the beat of their own drummer but.... chris taylor, their OM is a smart guy
 
I see they’re still playing classic AT40 this morning. Do they have a contract to play them for a certain period of time? I assume if they had a contract with Rick Dees and the WT40, they could simply flip from the classic 80s version over to the current CHR version of the countdown without penalty.

FM100 won't be switching to K-Love, the country station that K-Love is displacing will move to the soon-to-be-former WMC-FM.

Today on WT40 - looks like they flipped over to the 90s version. However, the first segment was from 1998, the second segment was from 1996, then the third segment went to 1999. Scratching my head on this one.
 
Looks like Flinn jumped the gun. With the iHeart Hot AC / CHR jumping to a huge signal at 102.7, Flinn must feel a little dumb right now.

No, theyve been here before.. IE: Flinn competing against bigger signals. I worked for them in another market, theyre a bit different but smart and they know memphis better than just about anyone in the market

iHeart is under the assumption that it's the signal, and NOT their generic, cookie cutter format that's at fault.

Because 102.7 reaches into the parts of the market that WMC-FM does. 101.9 does not cover all of the market, nor does 107.5. They see and opportunity to make a lot more money with 102.7 as a Hot AC once FM100 goes away than they were with Rock 103. They cloned WMC-FM's library at launch and once the 99.7 change takes place they have established themselves as the place for their listeners to move to.
