WHDH NEWS APPROACH IS TRIED AND TIRED!

Is it just me or does their style seem very tried and tired.

BIG Annoying Graphics, Dramatic (and annoying) Announcer and Sound Effects, Everything is "Breaking News!".

Also, good looking anchors that have minimal talent whatsoever.

It shows in the ratings, I'm actually suprised that their ratings aren't worse.

It goes to show you how much effort it takes to pull off this approach to news. Look back at when they first launched and how fresh it seemed at the time. In fact, if you watch old airchecks, it still does. And Ansin is DEAD WRONG if he thinks you can plug just anyone into a newscast and expect it to work. The launch team was murderer's row compared to the current cast.

Yeah, something about WHDH's presentation just rubs me the wrong way. It almost screams "TABLOID" to me.

When I do watch Boston news, I greatly prefer FOX25.

Was it not sister station WSVN/Miami that pioneered the "if it bleeds, it leads" news concept?

One thing I would like to see is literally everything being "Breaking News", all the way down to the commercial break and the goodnights before the Nightly News or Leno -- since they already overuse it, why not take it to the hilt?

I like WHDH. I think they have good coverage and I don't have a problem with their presentation. Try watching the crap from Providence. You'll have a new appreciation for WHDH. The Newscasts down here are not even in HD yet. NONE OF THEM!

That would be F***ING HILARIOUS!! I'm laughing out loud in my cubicle at work thinking about it. Brilliant!!

I like WBZ and I'm growing on Fox25.

I don't watch anything on ABC so I very rarely ever watch WCVB. (Guess I'm in the minority lol)

Fox 25 News is an oxymoron.

WBZ has gotten better again, but WCVB is still the only one that consistently doesn't talk to people like they're stupid.

When I'm watching something on ABC, it's via WMUR, so I rarely watch WCVB. I actually had it on for a little while earlier today during the 5:00 news. It looked nice; I'm sure it'd look nicer on an HD TV, or at least something bigger than my cheap 13-inch TV. ;)

And what's so oxymoronic about it?

Yes, and IIRC, that line was attributed to WSVN's News Director Joel Cheatwood who later repeated his "magic" up here.
WHOOSH! ZING! BREAKING NEWS! BOING!

WHDH has screamed "tabloiud" for several years now. Too flashy, too dramatic, and they seldom ever break a story. I do like Fox25 News in the morning, especially the Let 'Er Rip segment. WBZ is doing a better job, IMHO, while WCVB-TV continues to have the best overall newscast, and team of experiences reporters. As a former broadcaster myself, I remember the old days when Jack Hynes anchored the news in color on the old WHDH-TV channel 5. I also remember no-nonsense anchor Arch McDonald and the days of primitive graphics.

almost scream tabliod, it DOES scream tabliod. and the female anchorets look like strippers.....

Yeah..... I am finding it difficult to have a problem with female anchors that look like strippers. If WLNE in Providence had taken that appproach they probably would not be going bankrupt.
