WHDH -TV Channel 7 News - Not Ready For Prime Time

Never watch WHDH-TV Ch. 7 News if I can help it but I was at a friend's house on Saturday night when it came on. Channel 7 did a piece on the proposed changes to Landsdowne Street next to Fenway Park. It is a street populated with nightclubs for mostly college students and 20 somethings.
It shouldn't have come as a surprise that many of the people hanging out there were drunk or high or both and smoking. But should Channel 7 endorsed that by interviewing several young women on camera who were both obviously drunk and smoking. Sets a great example. Of course, few expect anything more from Ansin's Tabloid Trash News Station.

Hey!

That tape was not supposed to be aired as news!

It was shot as part of preparation for a new reality series that starts next October!

You are kidding I hope. What is it going to be called - High Times on Lansdowne - or -Young Girls who Smoke Get Lung Cancer More Than Young Men Who Don't -

No working title announced yet.

Funny thing is that the concept is not original. There as an attempt to film (pre-tape days) a pilot inside The Sevens and along Charles Street back around 1963. Smoke (of various sorts) was so thick that the film turned out poorly and no amount of filtering could make most of it usable.

Anybody else here old enough to remember The Sevens (777) and the real name of the establishment?

Not even close!

C'mon....gotta be somebody else here who was at BU or BC or MIT or even Hahhvudd back then. Or maybe who knew somebody who worked at WBOS or WCOP (Willie the copy)? The SEVENS, for Gawd's sake!

OK, then how about The Cave? Or "Your Father's Mustache"?

Read enough of the link below and you'll figure that one out....

Re: WHDH-TV CH. 7 NEWS - DRUNK AND SMOKING !

More "fun" WHDH stuff....

During a football game (or practice) a player was running to catch the ball, and caught it as he fell into a concrete wall in which a 4 yr old child was standing in front of it and he (the kid) got hurt...he's ok now. But as they ran the story....The Einstein-ish Christa Delcamp states "now...if you watch it again in slow motion you can see the player hit the child" yeah Christa, we saw it the first time, didn't need to show a child getting hurt in slow motion.

And in the same 10 minute span, they have a teaser about an international soccer player who kisses the ump on the cheek. Jonanathan Hall says something to the effect that an unusual kiss or something is coming up....not too bad. He then says you don't want to miss this, then cut right to a weather teaser in which Jeremy Reiner states rather emphatically "I don't want to see that!" Yeah, great thing to say where Randy Price is the lead anchor of the night time news.

And while I'm on a roll....Why is it that whenever anything tragic in the world happens, they have to tie the situation somehow to Boston? "Seventeen babies were killed in Iraq today, and it turns out that one of the mothers of the babies thought about visiting Cambridge 100 years ago" I hate that.

And what is with the illiteration? Disaster in Detroit! Tragedy in Tizbekistan! Chaos in Crete!

Re: WHDH-TV CH. 7 NEWS - DRUNK AND SMOKING !

Boring in Boston!

(Sorry, couldn't resist. It was just a natural alliterative progression.)

Re: WHDH-TV CH. 7 NEWS - DRUNK AND SMOKING !

7 is just appeals to the appalling low intellectual audience it attracts.
Probably the typical Herald readers who think Howie Carr is a literary genius.

your friend is in that audience since he watches 7 news. he probably won't be your friend for much longer after he finds out about all the mean things you say about him....it takes one to know one.

Yeah if they were truly intelligent, they'd listen to that highbrow stuff on NPR instead. Some of my colleagues are sure to inform the rest of us of their listening habits - so we know how smAHt they are. Too bad that those same people also seem to be dreadful bores. But they are smart enough to believe every single word of an "Inconvenient Truth" - not like dummies who ask silly questions about things like facts. But, I digress...

Please let me know if you can see Mt. Washington from the top of your ivory tower - I'd love to know. ;D

Re: WHDH-TV CH. 7 NEWS - DRUNK AND SMOKING !

I didn't know I had any friends here.
Perhaps, you just want to observe how now to produce a news program ;)

During the 11PM Newscast of Channel 7 Saturday a new male anchor...anchor is the sense of pullling the ship down below water... reported on the private airplane that crashed into a house in Mashpee.

The anchor - who in all honesty probably didn't write the script but was also probably too stupid to realize what he was reading - said... and I quote...." the people who were not in the house were not injured..." Where's the Aflack duck when you need him? Ugh!
Talk about making the obvious your own conclusion.
