WHEC TV10 - INSENSITIVE TO THE MAX

Yesterday, on the 5PM news, WHEC TV10 did a story on the City of Rochester's plan to narrow a section of East Avenue from 4 lanes down to 2 lanes. They story had on-camera interviews with 4 residents, each of whom gave their reaction to the planned change.

All 4 were adult males, and each spoke english. Three were white and one was black. When the black man spoke, they ran a translation of what he was saying across the bottom of the screen. They did not do this with the other 3. I could not believe what I was seeing - how insulting to that man. Who at Channel 10 allowed that to air?

Not that I am defending Channel 10, nor did I see this interview, but is it possible that background noise distorted the audio so the station decided to run this african-american gentleman's comments in print?

No, the background noise level was the same for all four.

If that is the case then it is puzzling why Channel 10 would require a closed-captioning for this individual. Perhaps you should contact 10's news director for some answers.

Thats hilarious. I love nothing more than a Newscast with a sense of humor. My girlfriend is black and I stilll find it very comical.

Rochester has never been known as a liberal hotbed....none of this should surprise anyone.
